Beautiful Work This Week

Ready, Steady, Grow!

In the spring of 2023, the KS1 pupils from primary schools across the XP Trust undertook a cross-curricular learning Expedition called ‘Ready Steady Grow’, where they looked to answer the guiding question…

‘How can I be the healthiest version of me?’

The Expedition culminated in this beautiful collaborative book – filled with recipes, healthy eating advice and the story behind the students’ learning!

‘What will I do to be a champion in my community?’ Pledges at Norton Infants!

3LG Are Rock Detectives

This morning, 3LG have been investigating the different properties of rocks.

We started our investigations by scratching different types of rocks with our fingernails, a coin and a paperclip to test the hardness. We then tried dropping water onto the rocks to test whether they were permeable or impermeable. We finished by dropping vinegar on the rocks to see if they fizzed, showing us whether or not they contained calcium. These tests allowed us to decide whether the rocks were sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.

Bake Sale!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to buy or make donations for the Year 6 bake sale! The cakes and biscuits were incredible and thoroughly enjoyed by children and staff! A full total of money raised will be available soon after we have counted it all. Once again a huge thank you!

We’re stoked! 🔥

After months of discussion and deliberation, NJS is pleased to announce the creation of its brand new fire-pit! Thanks to the diligence and hard work of our own Mrs Blunt, Norton Junior’s fire pit is complete with log stools and a fire ring, ready for exciting crew and activity sessions to come. We can already taste the smores!

4GC loves reading (and Mrs Blunt).

We retuned to school to be greeted by an amazing seated area and fire pit lovingly constructed by the selfless Mrs Blunt (during half term). Basking in the sunshine, we engaged in a spot of reading this morning and didn’t we just love it! Welcome back everyone and many thanks again to our awesome Mrs Blunt.

Brass band & conquer!

Years five and six had the honour of learning from Askern & Hatfield’s Brass Band and listening to their pleasant colliery tunes this afternoon. Between the songs, the musicians gave an insight into the origin of brass bands in the UK as well as talking about the impact being in a brass band has had on their own lives, from performing in prestigious, world-renowned venues to making lifelong friends and even supporting their mental health. Thank you very much to the group for coming to our school to share their music and their stories with us!

Norton’s own theme park opening soon!

This morning, year six gathered themselves into groups to begin drafting business proposals for a new theme park in Norton. With £5 million to spare, the class started to budget their theme park and create a map of their park, including thrill-seeking rides, children’s rides and water flumes galore. Their understanding of the four operations were definitely put to the test as they checked their balance sheet to ensure they could afford their new ventures. Good luck, entrepreneurs! 👍🏼
