Footballing fun for Year 3/4 at Campsmount!
A team of 11 year 3/4s travelled up to Campsmount Academy on Wednesday for another Leger tournament – this time, the weather was typically British. However dense the clouds and wet the ground, this did not darken the boys’ spirits.
The team played extremely well given the conditions and worked as a team to develop strategies against their opposition. Shout outs to Jacob and John as they demonstrated great leadership on the pitch, orchestrating the team’s attacks and defence as well as encouraging their team mates to do well! Another shout out to Spencer for his compassion towards the other team. Soaked through from the start and freezing, the team played well and battled on to the end. Well done, team!

Today, we spend or Flexible Friday crew session having Halloween fun. Check out our spooky mummies and awesome Jack O’Lanterns. After half term, Mr Carr will decide which Jack O’Lantern design is worthy of being carved on the gigantic pumpkin which was donated to school by a child in Y3!!
Long Multiplication Mastery! ✖️
On Wednesday, 6CC found themselves blessed as ten new teachers stepped into the class to help them master long multiplication. After studying short multiplication and applying this formal method to various problems of different representations, the next step was to grapple with long multiplication which will assist them with multiplying two or three digit numbers by two or more digits. Credit to the class as they all showed excellent teamwork, mentoring and listening skills. Awesome effort, 6CC!
Market Research
This afternoon, 5HJ needed some help with their upcoming DT project to find out which soft toys are popular. We visited Y2 armed with a host of different questions and carried out market research. We will use our findings to help plan and design our rainforest sort toys!
Year 5/6 Football
NJS’ first tournament of the year and on this occasion, the year 5/6 boys headed to Campsmount to take part in the Leger Sport football competition. With many schools now part of the Leger model, the team faced stiff competition but played well as a collective and enjoyed the chance to compete against other schools. Also, a shout-out to Mr Hayward and Mrs Gill for accompanying the team. Well done all!
Consequences of deforestation
An important part of our learning for our current expedition is deforestation and the effects it has on wildlife as well as humans. This afternoon, 5HJ created mind maps thinking about the consequences of cutting down the trees in the Amazon rainforest. It was a thought provoking exercise for all.

In Maths this week, Year 6 have made it their mission to master formal methods of calculation, namely column addition and column subtraction. Putting their understanding to the test, it has been breath-taking to see these tenacious year sixes grappling with missing digit problems and applying their problem-solving/ detective skills to help find some vacant spaces in the calculations. All have worked extremely hard and some have even taken to our Year 6 Learning Site to engage with Maths at home.
Extra Study: NJS Deadly 60!
Some of our class members have produced some stunning, fact-filled presentations at home through the Year 6 Learning Site. Shoutouts to Laura, Lucy and Lucas for their Google Slides about the some of the animals that inhabit the Amazon rainforest. Awesome job!
Chance to dance
What a wonderful experience we had on Tuesday morning visiting the cast theatre and watching the royal ballet dancers perform. We were able to watch them showcase a range of dances and see techniques of ballet through the ages. Everyone was so engaged in the show and showed their appreciation by giving the dancers lots of applauses and even standing ovations. I was so proud of the insightful questions the children asked the dancers and their interaction throughout the whole performance.
Get your moves ready, chance to dance is going to be an amazing adventure for us all!
Human Settlements
This week, 5HJ have been learning about human settlements. The children were given a range of different physical features and human features such as mountains, rivers, town and created their own settlement. Each group was able to explain why the key features were placed in their location, justifying their reasoning.
