In honour of Maths Week England, the children have participated in a range of different maths based tasks this week. We have explored and completed a variety of problems that required some different thinking.
The children have showed great perseverance, resilience and patience. They’ve had to work systematically and had to work together to battle through these difficult problems but have done so exceptionally.
5HJ have been busy using their sewing skills to create soft toys inspired by the rainforest. They’ve been carefully stitching colourful animals and it’s been wonderful to see their creativity come to life. I can’t wait to see the final outcomes!
As 6RH begin the second half of our expedition, we have had a visit from some very interesting and unusual creatures as we re-hook the children into our learning.
Our amazing children made waves at the Legacy swimming gala yesterday showing incredible skill, teamwork and sportsmanship. We are all so proud of their dedication and the fantastic medals they brought home – true champions in and out of the pool!
Our class had a fantastic visit from an animal expert who introduced us to some incredible creatures — including a snake, tarantula, skunk and meerkat! The pupils loved getting up close to the animals, learning about their unique habitats and discovering what they like to eat.
It was an unforgettable hands-on learning experience!
This week, Year 5 have been putting their creativity and research skills to the test by planning and writing their very own Amazon Rainforest Survival Guides.
From deadly predators to poisonous fruits, the children explored the challenges of surviving in one of the world’s most extreme environments. They thought carefully about the skills, equipment and knowledge needed to stay safe, and presented their ideas through engaging writing filled with detail and imagination.
During Hook Week, Year 6 have had a perfect opportunity to model our Craftsmanship & Quality character trait and what a job they did! They have worked incredibly with great focus, precision and a real eye for detail. In addition to this, the support, compassion, and teamwork on show was exemplary which ensured they all produced a fantastic individual piece of artwork which came together to form larger pieces inspired by our current expedition.
During our first week back, Year 6 explored the question ‘How can we get everyone to the top of the mountain?’
We took an in depth look at our character traits of respect, integrity, courage, compassion and craftsmanship & quality, discussed their importance and how the children could demonstrate these on a day to day basis. They dived straight into modelling these expertly during a variety of team building exercises. Throughout the week, the children took part in trust exercises, a mini olympics, a sponsored run/walk, bridge building to name just a few. Unbelievable camaraderie, solidarity, teamwork and support was on show by all; we are primed and ready storm through the year!
During Crew Week, Year 5 explored the question: “How can our crew be strengthened by acts of service to others?”
Drawing on our character traits of respect, compassion, and quality & craftsmanship, the children created beautiful gifts which were delivered to residents at The Laurels Residential Care Home. Both the children and residents thoroughly enjoyed spending time together — a heartwarming experience for all.
What a wonderful first week back we’ve had, immersing ourselves in everything Crew!
We’ve spent time building relationships through fun team-building activities like tower building (with art straws—and even shoes!), Crew Olympics, Pictionary, and so much more. Here’s to a great year ahead!
