Happy, Healthy Me

The summer term has got off to an exciting start with year 5’s immersion into their new expedition: Happy, Healthy Me. Over the course of this week, the children have been getting active (setting new 1 mile PBs and investigating their heart-rate recovery time after exercise), in addition to blind-tasting a range of healthy and unhealthy products and creating some fantastic plague doctor artwork (the focus of our first case study). What a fantastic start to our final expedition!

Hook Week!

5EG have dove straight into their new expedition ‘Happy Healthy Me!’ this week, and had an introduction to each of our case studies – history, science and DT. We’ve had blind food tasting, drawing plague doctors, and even seen how quickly we could run a mile! What a great start to the exciting summer term!

And We’re Off!

After what I hope was a fantastic Easter, it is absolutely brilliant to see everyone coming back this week and we have hit the ground running! Here in Year 4, we have been immersing ourselves into our new expedition, ‘Why Is Sugar Not So Sweet?’ where we shall be exploring its historic roots, and flavourful present. We have been creating timelines, our own sugary products, and conducting a blind taste test! Over the rest of this final summer term, we have got so many great experiences planned, and I can’t wait to share all of these and all of our learning in the weeks to come!

Back with a bang (of a bat)!

Post-Easter Catchup
After a well needed Easter break,6CC have hit the ground running, returning to school with an abundance of focus, resilience and a desire to soak up as much valuable learning as they can before their upcoming SATs assessments.

Maths
In Maths, the children have explored 2D and 3D shape, coordinates , translation, symmetry and reflection. Working with new partners as of the beginning of the week, the crew of 6CC has knuckled down and impressively supported each other in every area of learning. Well done guys!

Rounders!
Wednesday afternoon saw the children enjoy the chance to let off some steam with some healthy competition: our inter class rounders tournament not only refreshed the children’s memory of the rules of the game but also saw sportsmanship, respect and great team work. Awesome start to the new PE topic, Year 6!

Hook week is underway!

We love a bit of food tasting here at NJS and what better way to kick off an expedition all about sugar to critique some sugary treats brought in by our staff. And yes, we even had Pink Wafers to gorge on! Yummy.

Investigating nets of cubes

Year 6 have been working extremely hard on shape in maths this week. Today, we have investigated nets of cubes to see how many we could find. We showed excellent teamwork and resilience during this practical task.

A History Of Sugar

As part of our new expedition Serious About Sugar, Passionate About People 3LG have been investigating the history of sugar and sweets. Starting in 1538 and going all the way up to modern day we constructed a timeline from the start of the sugar trade to the opening of iconic sweet factories in Doncaster.

And our new expedition is ……..
