Today, Year 4 have been flexing their mathematical muscles by demonstarting their recent proficiency towards grid method multipliation! These messy multiplications showed the children’s grasp and they fully enjoyed themselves. Whether this enjoyment came from the maths or writing on the tables, remains to be seen!
In hook week, the children drew pencil sketches of their eyes, which were fantastic. However, we weren’t done. We knew we could improve! Multiple discussions, reflections, suggestions and after a great deal of patience and perseverance, the children completed another draft (in some cases another 2 drafts). The finished products are incredible and just shows the power of this process.
In Year 4’s English Cycle, we shall be writing explanation texts all about the human body for our expedition, ‘What Makes Us Human?’. These explanatory pieces of writing shall be aimed towards the infant school reception children and such, our texts need a friendly narrator! That’s where these characters come in… Today, we have been creating our explanation text narrators who are going to tell the infant children all about the human body and it must be said, they do look fantastic so far. I’m sure they can’t wait to explain all about science to the reception children!
Year 6 spent hook week looking at light and the eye. We discovered how light travels in science lessons before moving onto our focus artist: M.C. Escher. This artist was famous for drawing an image of his own eye so we sketched our own eyes in the same style. The pupils then critiqued each others’ work and completed a second draft. They were extremely proud of the outcomes!
5HJ we’re fully immersed in their learning during hook week focussing on investigating how light travels in straight lines. The children used torches and a range of objects from string to mirrors to investigate explain that objects are seen because they give our or reflect light into the eye.
In the initial group stage with seven back-to-back victories, the team beat every team at the tournament without any teams scoring against against them. In the knockout stages, a 4-0 victory against Plover Primary secure passage to the final where the team won a cagey 2-1 victory against Owston Park. With NJS dominating the ball for the vast majority of the game, Owston managed to score once before another NJS hoop. Outstanding work from all involved, with year 5s stepping up in what was a demanding, physical tournament at XP School.p
