We have had a wonderful first day back after the Christmas holidays. Today we’ve kicked off our new expedition with some Science and exploring the human body!

Year 5 Science Fair!
To culminate their expedition, Year 5 held a science fair in the final week of their learning journey to celebrate and present all their learning. Pupils across year 5 manned stalls linked to aspects of their learning from each case study (science and D.T) and demonstrated their knowledge to parents and fellow NJS pupils alike. The event was one of our best celebrations of learning yet in UKS2 with children eager to put punters through their paces on all things forces, space and D.T. Well done, Year 5!
If I had a hammer!
Year 6 have been busy constructing their Solar System models this week. They have been practising the skills of sawing wood and joining materials with a hammer and nails. The models are coming along nicely and the pupils can’t wait to show them off during their presentation of learning.
Cutting edge stuff!
With the end of our autumn expedition in sight, 5CC have began the physical labour of creating their final product. In DT (third case study), the children were given the opportunity to practice and perfect measuring and cutting square timber before cutting the measurements of wood needed for their project – a model rotating solar system. With several more lessons needed to fully create their model, 5CC will now construct their models in groups ready for the big reveal at their presentation of learning in December. Will their creations measure up? Will their efforts be out of this world? Stay tuned!
Maths Week 2024
What an amazing effort from these guys this week. Over 1211 classes entered the SumDog maths week competition with over 12,000 children around the country playing. 5HJ worked with determination to achieve 13th place with 9 children actually completely the maximum 1000 questions. I couldn’t be prouder of you all! What a team!
This Little Light of Mine!
4TE have been flexing their musical muscles this afternoon with some beautfiul and energetic renditions of ‘This Little Light of Mine’. The children had loads of fun and shall likely be repeating the song all the way home!
Year 6 Music
Year 6 have been enjoying their Sing Up music sessions this half term. Today, we learned how to keep a strong, steady beat using cups whilst singing What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor.
Happy Halloween
Check out our creative Flexible Friday Halloween crafts and super scary outfits today. We also spent the afternoon taking part in a spooky Halloween Hunt. Happy half term everyone!
Gravity
Last week, year 5 embarked upon case study 2 (physics) discovering why unsupported objects fall to the ground. Here we are completing 2 scientific investigations using Newton meters to measure the weight of objects and investigating how the mass of an object affects how fast it falls to the ground.
3SG’s marvellous maths
Today in 3SG we have been looking at greater than, less than and equals to symbols, putting our hard work into practise all over the tables! When we felt confident we then completed a challenge to finish off our maths lesson. The children are engaging in maths so well and I am so proud of how their collaboration today.
