This afternoon, Y3 have been channeling their inner Mayan and creating their very own Mayan inspired masks. We looked at why Mayans wore masks and how they were designed before creating our own.
Y3 Plant Trees
Y3 celebrated their amazing learning throughout the spring term by each planting a tree around the perimeter of the school field. We reflected on our guiding question “How can we protect our wonderful world?” and presented our learning to parents. We are very lucky that Murphy’s group donated enough trees that every child could plant their own with their own customised wooden tag.
Thank you so much to everybody that came and celebrated the children’s awesome work with us.
The French Revolution at Campsmount Come Dancing 2024 🪩
On Thursday 21st March, a team of twenty-one dancers took part in the annual Campsmount Come Dancing competition. After four months of weekly practice, their collective efforts and commitment culminated in a captivatingly dramatic performance in front of four judges and a raucous crowd of local parents and carers.
With strong competition from other local junior teams in Askern Spa, Barnburgh and Kirk Smeaton, The Norton Junior School dance team captured their audience with a energetic and emotive performance, based on the French Revolution, with accompanying music from Les Miserables. Just when staff and parents could not have been more proud, the team secured a perfect score of 40/40 and came first place in the competition. Spectacular effort! 🪩
Scientific Discoveries!
Yesterday, Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to venture up to Campsmount to take part in an afternoon of scentific discovery! We made sandtimers, pendulums and exploded some balloons with oranges! The children had a brilliant time!
Wonderful World Book Day!
A wonderful World Book Day was enjoyed by all yesterday! The children in 4TE started the day being welcomed into school by Willy Wonka himself! Then, they spent the morning with Year 3 before becoming immersed in all things pirates in the afternoon! It was a really lovely day and a great way to end the week!
🎸🤘Yr 5 Ukulele Performance🤘 🎸
5HJ show-cased their musical ability during last week’s performance to parents. The children have been taking part in weekly ukulele lessons with the fabulous Mr Nicklin and learnt some fabulous songs. Parents were so impressed with the talent shown! 😊
Setting Description Artwork!
Recently, 4TE have discovered that our English writing focus for this half-term is to create a setting description! To get us started and show the importance of being incredibly detailed and specific, the children had a go at describing different settings to their partner (without their partner seeing) with their partner then having to draw the setting being described to them! There were some very creative pieces of work created from some very detailed and specific narrators!
Primary School Christmas Musical
A massive well done to the fabulous children who took part in the Christmas musical last night. They put on a super performance, sang their hearts out and delivered their lines like oscar worthy actors. Their hard work, giving up their lunch times, staying after school and being pulled out of classes paid off, with them giving a performance of a lifetime. Well done to everybody who took part, we are incredibly proud of you!
It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
Christmas has officially hit 3LG with the arrival of our mischievous elf. Frederick the Elf brought the Christmas spirit and 3LG have offically got the Christmas bug! 3LG spent their Flexible Friday crew session decorating our Christmas tree and completing the exciting activities Frederick had brought us!
On Monday afternoon, we held our annual Christmas Crafts fair where children turned themselves into elves and created paper christmas trees and baubles. We had a fabulous afternoon and will be finding glitter around the classroom for weeks!
On Tuesday afternoon, we brought back the famous NJS Christmas Bazaar where children spent the afternoon going around the school and playing a number of different Christmas games. From pin the nose on rudolph to catch the snowball – NJS had all the Christmas games you could dream of.
Sam’ Safari
Last week, year 5 had an awesome visit from Sam’s Safari who brought a vast assortment of rainforest animals for us to discover. The children understood the impact of deforestation on the habitats of animals ranging from leave cutters to millipedes and geckos. What a wonderful experience!
