Battle Ready

And here we have it, a selection of our finished Roman shields modelled by a selection of our fierce Roman Centurions. To create our shields, the children designed and critiqued their work before finalising their ideas before the construction phase could begin. Here, the children initially painted their shields before adding decorative wings, lightening bolts and borders out of silver and gold paper. Finally, the children used the base of used plastic bottles as the shields ‘boss’ which they painted silver. Of course, the legend that is Mrs Ball added the handles on the reverse and then our shields were complete. Indeed, there’s a little bit of work to do before they will be ship shape and ready for combat however as their self-entitled lieutenant, and of course having the added advantage of growing up on the mean streets of Rotherham, I feel more than prepared for the demands of the role.

Truly Legion!
What a fantastic start to the school year by 4GC! They have settled brilliantly, worked hard and demonstrated our core values in abundance throughout the week. This term’s expedition is entitled ‘Relentless Romans’ and we have been busy this week making Roman shields, traditional mosaics and even and centurion’s battle helmet! In these accompanying pictures, you can marvel at the detail and precision at which these shields have been put together. Perhaps the best way to summarise our efforts this week is through the Roman Latin phrase ‘Carpe Diem‘…Indeed, 4GC have Seized the Day.
Relentless Romans
3HJ have been immersed in everything Roman this week.
Here you can see the wonderful shields that have been designed. painted and decorated. We used our observation skills to make them as authentic as possible and are very proud of our results!
Movie Magic!
During their first day back, the Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in lots of exciting Harry Potter themed activities as part of our ‘The Magic of Motion’ exhibition. The children dressed up as witches and wizards and through the magic of technology, photo shopped themselves into various Harry Potter movie sets!

Jungle Fever!
All of our little monkeys have been going wild on our brand new Jungle Trail over the last couple of days. The newest addition to our outdoor provision has certainly been a hit with the children! Tarzan has got nothing on us!

Final Word Presentations
The Year 6 pupils have spent the last few weeks tirelessly working on their Final Word presentations and today have started to present them to family, staff and friends. We have been blown away by the quality of their reflections on their time at NJS and have loved hearing about their character growth over the last 4 years. A lot of the children have been extremely nervous about presenting in front of an audience but we couldn’t be more proud of their achievements. Well done Year 6!
Football’s Coming Home!
We know that some of you will be up late Sunday night watching the football match, and it’s going to be a late night. We want the children to enjoy the evening and rather than come in tired, or not at all we’re extending our opening times! This is for Monday only!
School will be open at normal time but you will have up to 10am to arrive, after this late marks will be applied.
It is 55 years since England reached a major football final so let them watch, talk about the importance of the National Anthem, talk about pride and resilience and possibly (but hopefully not) disappointment. This is a learning opportunity in itself.
Please stay safe, but most of all enjoy the event and have fun!
Come on England! #NortonInspired
