Check out the wonderful Christmas crafts Year 3 made during our community event with parents and family members. We made amazing hanging wreath decorations and Christmas cards! Thank you so much to everyone who attended and help kick of the festive season!

This week has seen the return of our little friend, Egbert Elf. He has already been causing lots of mischief: stripping all the baubles of the Christmas tree, changing the iPad wallpaper and having a midnight art lesson in mono-printing! Please be good Egbert!
This week, 6CC have stepped into Christmas with full effect and have already begun their Christmas expedition inspired by the novel and film, ‘A boy called Christmas’. After watching this Santa origin story, the children have been busy exploring characters and the language author’s use to create a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. So far, we have generated vocabulary for various fictional characters and sought to enhance our descriptions from simple words and phrases to expanded noun phrases, similes, metaphors and alliteration. Later in the week, the children will be writing their own descriptions for Matt Haig’s characters.

Christmas Scenes
To help capture the Christmas spirit, 6CC have also started work on their own Christmas scenes. So far, the children have chosen a stimulus to help them draw the outline in preparation for adding their chosen media over the next two weeks.

Today Y3 had the amazing opportunity to work with visitors from the Chance to Dance programme. Each class got an hour long workshop with Bim (a Royal Ballet artist) and Miss Wendy from Hazelbiz Performers Academy.
During the workshop we thought all about ice scupltures – how they look and how they might move. We focused on the word “gliding” and used this to help us move around the hall. Eventually, we turned ourselves into intertwining ice sculptures.

Here’s a selection of beautiful work from across the XP Trust this week! To read about other stories from across the XP Trust, visit http://xptrust.org/stories

Year 3 have started to investigate the process of multiplication this week, starting with doubling numbers. I was super impressed with the way the children developed their understanding and grappled with bigger numbers!
It’s 1st December and it is fair to say we are already feeling in the Christmas spirit. The start of December saw the arrival of Zoink the Elf, who brought with him the Christmas tree and advent calendars. We had a fabulous time this morning in crew listening to Christmas music and decorating the tree.

We kicked off our festive celebrations with the Y3 Christmas Crafts Fair. We made some amazing Christmas wreaths, Christmas cards and paper snowflakes. A big thank you from the entire Y3 team to all the parents who came in and joined us this morning.

Over the past two weeks, teams from years 3&4 and 5&6 have ventured to Campsmount to take part in Leger Sport basketball competitions. As always, the events were well organised and highly competitive with our children representing the school proudly. Whilst both teams achieved third, their team spirit, resilience (against incredibly tall opponents) and togetherness was inspiring. Well done to both teams!

On Wednesday 30th, parents and carers of year 6 children were invited to take part in our annual Christmas crafts afternoon. It was lovely to welcome parents into our classroom to help our children create their own tissue paper Christmas wreaths whilst enjoying some Christmas music. Thank you to all who attended an

This morning, 6CC were ordered to take shelter under the tables as the air raid siren boomed overhead. After spending some time building up our knowledge of all things World War I, the children imagined what it would be like to live and fight in the trenches before being introduced to famous ‘The Christmas Truce’ TV advert.

After watching the video, children planned their own stories (in first or third person) and set about generating vocabulary to enhance the descriptions and emotive language in their writing. With such great ideas and discussions surrounding how the soldiers must have felt during what is a special time of year, I look forward to seeing their finished stories!
