If it’s good enough for our children, its good enough for our staff too… Everything that you are doing in class, we are doing too!
We have also be revisiting our Core Values that we set together as a whole community 5 years ago. Here we are unpicking exactly what it looks like to embrace our values and identify our own HOWLs – Habits of Work and Learning. HOWLS help us demonstrate how we are working to be the best version of ourselves or as we like to say, “Being the BEST version of ME!”
Our Autumn expedition is now fully up and running. Steve Nightingale (local photography expert) came in to work with year 5&6 and deliver a fantastic informative workshop. In addition to exploring an incredible range of the best up to date cameras on the market, the children also looked at the history of photography and the evolution of the camera. We were also given an insight into tricks of the trade and photography at a microscopic level.
A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting session.
Cheers Steve.
On Thursday, 5RS were lucky enough to receive a visit from a local photography expert! The children learned all about the history of the camera and explored how photography has changed over time. Mr Nightingale shared some wonderful snap shots of local wildlife that inspired our pupils to look around their gardens in search of possible subjects for their own photography journeys at home.
Our autumn expedition started with a bang with a terrific array of creepy crawlies and, conversely, fluffy friends. The visit from our expert consisted of a detailed talk about a variety of different creatures and they even donated some stick insects to be part of our CREW. Recent additions to the family include STICKARINA, BUSTER, WOODY and RALPH.
Alas….The Wonderful World of Bugs!

On Thursday 17th September, 6CC had the pleasure of learning from a local photographer, Mr Nightingale, who walked the children through the history of photography and explored the tools a modern-day photographer uses in the field. The children also got the chance to view and hold both past and current equipment. Thank you very much, Mr Nightingale!

On 17th September, Year 5 & 6 took part in an exciting photography workshop led by local photographer Steve Nightingale as part of our expedition, ‘Photographs that changed the world’. The pupils looked at how photography and camera technology has developed over time. Steve taught us about some of the most iconic photos ever taken, including Neil Armstrong on the moon and ‘Tank Man’, and the cameras and people who took them. We also discovered that Steve is a keen wildlife photographer and has taken some truly amazing photos of animals. He showed us a close up snap of a jumping spider and a magnificent barn owl mid-flight!

We are so lucky to have access to this amazing woodland area at NJS. We found so many different kinds of mini-beat which we identified.
To launch this term’s expedition we invited in some experts to share with us some very special friends that we definitely were not expecting…

What a wonderful afternoon we had delving into the marvellous word of mini-beasts. How brave are these children? I wonder how many of you would have been this brave?
I am just posting this quick video clip to explain to all the children in an easy to access way a few things about returning to school on Wednesday 2nd September. I hate doing vid clips so this was fun but it is what it is, one take and out – lol. I hope this helps settle the nerves of any of the children who might be feeling a little apprehensive – everything will be fine and on behalf of the whole school team, we can’t wait to see you all back in school 🙂 Take care of yourselves, rest easy and see you Wednesday.
