Super Start to School!

Happy Friday! I cannot believe we have already reached the end of our second week back at school but what can I say, time flies when you’re having fun and the children have been having a fantastic time these past couple weeks. From team-building activities last week such as tower building, to becoming fully immersed in all things Roman this week for hook week, the children have been doing it all!

Roaring week in Year 6! 🐯

It’s been a wild week in year six where the children have begun their autumn expedition, The Lungs of our World. 6CC have researched the Amazon rainforest and the many animals that inhabit it, presenting in depth fact files and even creating a shoebox habitat for their chosen animal.

The week culminated with a field trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park to see some of the animals they’d researched face to face. The class also took part in a surprise workshop to add context the learning of this term’s expedition.  🐯🐵🐗🐍🦓🦍🦏🦛

🐒🦓🐅 Yorkshire Wildlife Park 🐅🦓🐒

It was certainly a hot one but Year 5 had a wonderful time visiting The Yorkshire Wildlife Park yesterday! The children took part in an endangered animals workshop learning how and why animals are becoming endangered and what we can do to help. Our highlights were definitely spending time with the wallabies and polar bears.

🍰🤍🧁 Act of kindness 🧁🤍🍰

During crew week, our guiding question was – How can crew be strengthened by acts of service to others? After holding crew sessions, Yr5 decided to litter pick whilst on our walk to Brockadale, visit The Laurels residential home to take gifts and spend time with residents as well as hold a bake sale to raise money for charity.

We are we’re blown away with the amount of donations received across Norton Campus and are excited to share that we raised a whopping £142.70. As a crew, we will decide where this money goes.

We Are Crew 😊

What a first week we have had! 5HJ have visited the infants and shared stories with Yr 2 children, baked mountains of buns for our bake sale, taken part in various team building games including getting extremely soaked and built bridges out of art straws. It’s definitely been a busy week!

What A Start!

WOW! What a start year 3 have had to their time at NJS! Since coming through the school gates on Tuesday in brand new blue uniforms, the children have made the entire year three team incredibly proud with how they have adapted to life in the juniors. We have had an action packed week with a number of team building activities and competitions.

On Tuesday, we headed outside and held a mini sports afternoon – we had running races, throwing competitions and even the speed bounce!

We have had lots of fun activities in our morning crew sessions this week. Wednesday saw a very competitive game of dodgeball between Crew Gate and Crew Gracey with all the children showing both amazing determination and sportsmanship. This morning, we were extremely lucky to be joined by a number of year 5 children to do some fabulous buddy reading.

We then headed to the hall as a whole year group for a STEM paper chain competition which the children absolutely knocked out of the park.

We finished the week by looking at acts of kindness. We started by getting out the litterpickers, heading outside and cleaning up the playground. We then headed back inside and baked rice crispy buns to be sold at the Y5 bake sale this afternoon.

Climbing the mountain together!🗻

On Tuesday, Year 6 started their first day as the head of the school and made a brilliant start settling in for the year ahead. With a focus on building our crew, the children have engaged in activities to bring individuals together, and to learn each other’s strengths; Wednesdays group challenge was to complete a long distance walk to Brockadale Nature Reserve , and back, a route of just over 8 miles (12 km). Enthusiastic, positive and very supportive of one another, the children completed their first challenge of year six with vigour. We now look forward to some interesting, unorthodox athletics challenges on Thursday before beginning of the hook week for our first expedition of the year. Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with 6CC 2023/2024!

Ahoy there, Shakespeare? 🏴‍☠️🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻

On the morning of the final Monday of year six, 6CC enjoyed putting their coordinates skills to good use as friends became enemies in today’s pirates bay game.

When friendships had rekindled, the team had the pleasure of engaging in a Shakespearean murder mystery: Romeo and Juliet Edition with Campsmount English teacher, Mrs Green. All enjoyed putting their detective skills to the test as they attempted to piece together a timeline of events from the evidence. Well done all!

Glorious Sports Day

I couldn’t have been prouder of this wonderful class who were absolutely amazing during sports day today. It was a hot one but the effort they put in was tremendous! Everyone ran their hearts out and the sportsmanship was great to see, congratulating winners and cheering encouragement to those competing! 🏃‍♀️🏅🎽🏆
