This week, 6SO brought their science case study to a close with an exciting ‘separating materials’ lesson! Unfortunately, Neville Longbottom mixed the wrong combination of substances for his liquid luck potion and it was 6SO’s task to effectively separate the materials using sieving and filtering methods. The team that managed to produce the clearest liquid by the end of the task were awarded 3 house points each!

Football Fun!

Goodness me, haven’t we missed all of this!  Children having the opportunity to thrive in activities beyond the classroom is one of the most wonderful things one can do.  On Wednesday 29th of September, 23 y3/4 pupils made their way to Campsmount to participate in a pyramid football festival that involved both Kirk Smeaton and Askern Spa.  3 teams played 5 matches each, with the top two in each group playing off in a final.  I am pleased to say that regardless of the result, our fabulous NJS pupils demonstrated all of our Core Values whilst representing school, particularly Voice Aspiration, Resilience and Respect!  What’s more, is that our teams performed extremely well with one of our male teams playing off in a final and subsequently winning the match 1-0 thanks to a crisp finish from Fraser.  A good time was had by all and I would like to thank Mrs Batty for accompanying us on the trip.  Well done NJS!

Hogwarts Art Work

Year 6 have been busy creating some wonderful Hogwarts artwork which has enabled them to develop their sketching skills. We think you’ll agree that the outcomes so far are very impressive!

4TE ended a fantastic week by getting very creative in maths! Everyone was able to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge and workings out on their tables. The only problem we struggled with, was who was going to clean it all up!

Chance To Dance

Last week saw the launch of our new and exciting dance program ‘Chance To Dance’. Year 3 visited Cast in Doncaster to watch an exceptional performance from the Royal Ballet! Our focus is Alice In Wonderland and we have been working hard to create motifs for the main characters – Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts. Children have thought carefully how to portray their characters through movements and facial expressions which we then put to music!

Doncaster Museum

Our year 3 children were lucky enough to visit the brand new and exciting Museum in Doncaster this week. The children participated in a whole range of activities linked to Roman times such as artefact hunting, playing Roman games and dressing in REAL Roman armour. We even had time to explore the rest of the Museum and I was extremely proud of the how each and every member of 3HJ represented our school! It was lovely to hear such positive feedback from Museum staff and the general public! Well done 3HJ!

This week Year 5 have been focusing on negative numbers in Maths and have supported each other through some tricky challenges. Even though they were playing a board game, so there was a hint of competition, the children proved they were Crew! They listened to their partner, supported each other when they needed it, and encouraged each other to have a go. Well done 5EG!

A sprinkle of magic!

The y5 cohort experienced a magical day at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour! From the moment we arrived, the children were immersed in the captivating world of Harry Potter: learning about the filming process, exploring the film sets, costumes, and even partaking in a game of Quidditch!
