6CC thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park today will all the children captivated by the wide variety of animals prowling about the grounds. Old classics such as the roaring lion prides, majestic Amur tigers and towering polar bears were a spectacle to behold; new inhabitants of the park such as the Harar hyenas and Californian sea lions were also on show, adding to the diversity.


However, the workshop with a wildlife expert introduced several of Earth’s most well known species and how they faired in terms of their Red list level – the rating of endangerment. An eye opening experience educating the children about why the population of certain animals is declining and what is being done to help save the species.

Overall, a fantastic day out for our expedition. Well done, Crew!

Wild Wildlife!

Year 6 had an amazing day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park! We took part in a workshop learning about endangered animals and the reasons why certain species are under threat and had a great time exploring the park. The pupils behaved impeccably all day and showed themselves to be great role models for NJS.

Kudos to our mini athletes representing NJS at CTC yesterday. After a feast of running, jumping and throwing, our children finished a respectable 2nd position missing out on first place by the narrowest of margins. More importantly, however, they represented the school superby showing great respect, support and sportspersonship to both the opposition and each other. Very well done!

In The Zone!

Today, 4TE have been practising their reading skills with some test questions about our key text – ‘The Last Bear’. We have had to get in the zone and be detectives to uncover the secrets within the text, and figure out the answers to some tricky test-like questions! We have really been working super hard as you can see!

3LG have the Chance to Dance

This morning we were lucky enough to be joined by visitors from the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet. The children were a credit to the school, and we received lots of positive feedback from the visitors. The children worked so hard, were super focused and finally got to perform their Alice in Wonderland dance to an audience. Myself and Mrs Gracey are so proud of them all, and the growth from when we started at the beginning of autumn has been incredible. Well done 3LG!

A busy week in 6CC!

Balance! Now hold it…

Last Wednesday, both year 6 enjoyed their first gymnastics lesson where they explored the two different types of balances: point and patch.

Through communication, cooperation and a great deal of effort, each pair classified a range of solo and paired balances into the two categories, making sure to hold their balances for at least five seconds.

To conclude the session, each group were asked to create their own sequence complete with two patch and two point balances. The audience then critiqued the performers based on their synchronisation, variety of balances and showing a clear beginning and ending to their sequence. Awesome effort from all groups!

More teachers, more learning! Fractions Edition

A challenging week focusing on fractions didn’t frighten 6CC as they in their student-teacher pairs. Complete collaboration on show as the pupils and mentors threw themselves into the task, the aim being to consolidate our learning: simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions and comparing fractions.

There and Back Again…

Last week, as previously documented… 4TE embarked on the mighty adventure to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Well, this week we have been planning to write about our trip. We aim to write some super detailed descriptions of what we experienced and these are some of our plans so far! We’re hopeful of some great pieces of writing to come!

The Call of the Wild

5EG have had an amazing day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They have demonstrated exemplary behaviour and been great ambassadors for the school. We managed to see nearly all of the animals, and even the elusive leopard!

From the snowy peaks of the Andes to the green grasslands of the Pampas fields in Argentina; through the dense canopies of the Amazon Rainforest to the vast, aridvexpanses of the Atacama Desert in Chile, 6CC have put their knowledge of human and physical features to the test by exploring the various biomes in America’s southern continent.
