Beautiful Eyes!

Year 6 spent hook week looking at light and the eye. We discovered how light travels in science lessons before moving onto our focus artist: M.C. Escher. This artist was famous for drawing an image of his own eye so we sketched our own eyes in the same style. The pupils then critiqued each others’ work and completed a second draft. They were extremely proud of the outcomes!

Light and Shadows

5HJ we’re fully immersed in their learning during hook week focussing on investigating how light travels in straight lines. The children used torches and a range of objects from string to mirrors to investigate explain that objects are seen because they give our or reflect light into the eye.

An emphatic win for the NJS Y5/6 basketball team

In the initial group stage with seven back-to-back victories, the team beat every team at the tournament without any teams scoring against against them.
In the knockout stages, a 4-0 victory against Plover Primary secure passage to the final where the team won a cagey 2-1 victory against Owston Park. With NJS dominating the ball for the vast majority of the game, Owston managed to score once before another NJS hoop. Outstanding work from all involved, with year 5s stepping up in what was a demanding, physical tournament at XP School.p

Musical magic!

This afternoon 3EG were lucky enough to have a visit from Luke, from Doncaster Arts, who ran a workshop with the children. The children wrote their own lyrics to create a short composition, which will be sang by Doncaster children at an upcoming music concert held at Doncaster Dome. All of the children were engaged and enthralled and wrote some beautiful lyrics for a lullaby. Well done 3EG!

Being scientists!

What a great first week for 3EG! We have studied how the human body moves, where our main organs are, and what our body needs to stay healthy. We have had an expert visitor, an advanced clinical practitioner, to show us how our heart works, and we were even able to listen to our heart beating!

3SG get hooked into science

We have had a wonderful first day back after the Christmas holidays. Today we’ve kicked off our new expedition with some Science and exploring the human body!

Could you help to inspire the next generation of XP and XP East?

We are currently working to create a directory of experts for our upcoming Year 9 Passage Presentations and would appreciate your help!

Passage Presentation is an opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and demonstrate their readiness to move onto the next phase of their education – GCSE.

Students share their high quality work to a panel of experts and their family through an oral presentation, increasing their accountability and character development demonstrating the skills and knowledge they have gained in Key Stage 3.

As part of the presentation students provide insight into their future goals and aspirations and we would like to ensure an authentic expert for each of them at their presentation – this is where you come in!

We are seeking support from any members of our community to become an expert panelist at a Passage Presentation, to listen to the presentation, ask questions and support in directing pathways. In order for this to be a success we request help from members of the public who are able to share their own experiences and advice in order to advance our students to the next level of formal schooling.

If you feel this is something you are interested in, please use this link to sign up to the directory.

Presentations will take place week commencing 27th January 2025 for 3 weeks. You will receive an invite from the student you have been allocated nearer to the time.

Should you have any further questions, please contact a member of our Key Stage 3 Team:

Natalie Johnson- njohnson@xpschool.org (KS3 Lead)

Emma Watson- ewatson@xpschool.org (Phase Lead XPE 8/9)

Chris Morrison- cmorrison@xpschool.org (Phase Lead XP 8/9)

We appreciate your support in advance.

Year 5 Science Fair!

To culminate their expedition, Year 5 held a science fair in the final week of their learning journey to celebrate and present all their learning. Pupils across year 5 manned stalls linked to aspects of their learning from each case study (science and D.T) and demonstrated their knowledge to parents and fellow NJS pupils alike. The event was one of our best celebrations of learning yet in UKS2 with children eager to put punters through their paces on all things forces, space and D.T. Well done, Year 5!
