What a fantastic start to the school year by 4GC! They have settled brilliantly, worked hard and demonstrated our core values in abundance throughout the week. This term’s expedition is entitled ‘Relentless Romans’ and we have been busy this week making Roman shields, traditional mosaics and even and centurion’s battle helmet! In these accompanying pictures, you can marvel at the detail and precision at which these shields have been put together. Perhaps the best way to summarise our efforts this week is through the Roman Latin phrase ‘Carpe Diem‘…Indeed, 4GC have Seized the Day.

Relentless Romans
3HJ have been immersed in everything Roman this week.
Here you can see the wonderful shields that have been designed. painted and decorated. We used our observation skills to make them as authentic as possible and are very proud of our results!
Exploring the work of Quentin Blake
This week, we are excited to reveal some of the wonderful art work we are creating for our walking guide. We have taken our inspiration from the magnificent and extremely talented artist Quentin Blake – the author of countless Roald Dahl and David Walliams books.
Our crew used peer assessment and critique to improve they’re first draft and I am exceptionally impressed with the progress so far!
The Water Cycle
This week, we have spent time investigating how water moves around the water cycle. 3HJ thoroughly enjoyed creating their very own ‘water cycles’ but adding food colouring to water. The children drew the different stages onto clear plastics which we hung on the windows in our classroom.
We can’t wait to see the results!
Feed the birds
This week we have started working towards our final product – a walking guide – which we will be revealing in the not too distant future!
Check out these wonderful bird feeders we made using bread, peanut butter and bird seed. We plan to take them on one of our walks for the local wildlife to enjoy. The children then wrote a set of instructions ready to be published in our guide!
Our hike to Brockadale Nature Reserve
What a wonderful day for a hike!
My amazing crew walked over 8 miles on a hike from school to Brockadale Nature Reserve as part of our immersion week for our new and exciting expedition ‘Walking and wildlife’. The sun was shining and everyone showed huge determination and resilience.
What an achievement! I was so proud of each and every one of you!

Students engaged in a range of discussions surrounding kindness… whilst in the outdoor classroom! In Crew 6CC, we explored many different scenarios where kindness could have a profound impact on the situation where a negative result may possibly have been avoided. Using their voices, each pupils gave an insight into how they would react and how they would want to be treated in their chosen scenario. Before returning to the safety of our cozy classroom, the crew undertook a teambuilding challenge of passing around a musical instrument with the aim being not to make a sound.

Perfect Puppets
Our puppets are well and truly on the way to being completed. This week we have cut out our designs using a seam allowance and used a running stitch to join all the different parts. All the children have worked really hard to make sure their stitches were neat and straight! A great job by all!
What makes a hero?
After learning about the Pop Art movement in the 1960s, our children have been busy creating some eye-catching Pop Art pieces, based on the professions of the experts that visited us last week. The pupils have worked extremely hard to ensure their work is vibrant, bold and exciting. Here is a small selection of their beautiful work.
Pancake Day?
This year has been extremely tough on everyone, particularly our children. In 5RS, we thought that our Crew deserved a reward for their resilience and hard work during these unprecedented times and so we decided to revisit Shrove Tuesday. It is safe to say that our children had a flipping good time!
