Crafting for Christmas
It was such a treat to invite parents into school to take part in Our Christmas craft afternoon! We demonstrated patience and resilience whilst making Hama bead decorations and also ‘Elf-ed ourselves’. Thanks as always to our wonderful parents and carers for supporting your children.
“God Bless Us, Every One!”
As part of our Christmas Expedition slice, year 5 have stepped into the streets of Dickensian London where they have encountered the covetous, old sinner, Ebenezer Scrooge! After recreating the famous character description of A Christmas Carol’s frightful protagonist, the pupils have worked collaboratively to generate powerful vocabulary that will enable them to produce a contrasting description, following Scrooge’s transformation at the end of the novella. What better way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas!
Christmas fun and games with Doncaster Rovers
This term 3LG have been working with Doncaster Rovers during our PE lessons. The children have been playing lots of Christmas themed fitness games, even turning into naughty elves stealing presents from Santa.
Year 5 Visit to Danum Museum
This week, as part of their The Magic of Motion expedition, year 5 and 6 visited the Rail Heritage Centre at Danum Museum, which is home to two impressive locomotives (No. 251 and Green Arrow) and a large selection of railway memorabilia from the Doncaster Grammar School rail collection. The children were also treated to a fantastic workshop that explored how trains have been on a journey of change over the years. This supplemented their classroom learning brilliantly and provided an exciting, hands-on experience for all of our pupils.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Yesterday, 3HJ saw the return of our very own pesky elf – Egbert! We noticed that he had climbed into our Christmas tree and hidden amongst the branches with a letter from Santa at the North Pole.
Crew Jenkins really got into the Christmas spirt decorating the Christmas tree and adding lots of tinsel to the classroom! I really hope our friend Egbert isn’t going to be too much trouble!
Y3 take a trip to Doncaster Town Centre
Why should Doncaster remember the Romans?
Arithmetic Buddies
This afternoon, the children worked collaboratively to critique and correct their arithmetic strategies. Through listening and learning from each other, our crew are making tremendous progress in their number knowledge! Well done 5RS!
Visitors from the Royal Ballet
This morning year 3 were lucky enough to be joined by representatives from the Chance to Dance programme. We got the opportunity to work with an artist from the Royal Ballet and a local dance teacher. The children learned all about different stage directions and the mappings of movement that come together to make ballet. The children worked in their groups to create “flocking” movements in the style of the characters from the Royal Ballet Swan Lake. In their groups the children put together a routine using these movements and performed these in front of the whole class!
