Celebrating Rosa Parks

On Tuesday 5th February, Year 5 and 6 celebrated the life of Rosa Parks – a pivotal civil rights activist – who has been a huge part of our learning in our current expedition “Fight For Your Rights”. The children spent the day writing and performing their own songs about her life, creating protest posters and finally holding a March around school.

Lego Build the Change!

Year 6 have signed up to Lego’s Build the Change challenge! The children must work in teams to design and create built spaces for specific people and purposes. There first challenge is to design and make a party space suitable for a specific person with specific needs. We have been incredibly impressed with the pupils’ great teamwork and their creative ideas when designing.

Super Swimmers

Yesterday, I had the privilege of taking a team of swimmers to a Legacy Sport competition at Askern Leisure Centre. Our children were amazing, bringing home a range of gold, silver and bronze medals in breast stroke, front crawl and back stroke. The team spirt and support for each other was what makes our children so special. A huge well done to all involved!

4TE find the gold!

Today, 4TE were given a very special assignment… Using their recently aquired proficiency of grid method multiplication, the children had to solve a series of questions in order to uncover a codeword which led to a stash of ‘gold’ hidden somewhere in the school! The children showed brilliant resilience and teamwork to perservere with the challenge and as can be seen, to eventually find the gold!

6RH Creating and performing complex routines

So impressed with the attitude, creativity and physical ability of these incredible year 6 children. This half term we have been working hard on body movements and control and today they have created some really impressive routines and performed them to their peers. The courage to throw themselves in to gymnastics, challenge themselves, perform outside of their comfort zone all with a smile on their faces is so impressive.

Reading Gym

Over the past few weeks, 5HJ have worked hard to develop reading fluency and prosody. This week, we have learnt about the differences between the suffragists and suffragettes, completing ‘reading gym’ sessions where the children read quietly to themselves for a given length of time. This has really helped develop our stamina for reading.

3SG learn to Salsa

In music this half term we are learning the rhythm of Salsa music! We are practising using dance moves to understand the rhythm and body percussion to get the beat. Well done to 3SG for getting stuck in and working on their moves!!

Table Mathematics!

Today, Year 4 have been flexing their mathematical muscles by demonstarting their recent proficiency towards grid method multipliation! These messy multiplications showed the children’s grasp and they fully enjoyed themselves. Whether this enjoyment came from the maths or writing on the tables, remains to be seen!
