Yesterday afternoon Y5 and 6 had an expert visit. He spoke to us about his current job working in modern mines and a brief history of mines. The students then had lots of questions for him to answer and it was great to see how engaged the students were.
After spending the past 5 weeks learning everything there is to know about fractions in maths, 3HJ are definitely experts, especially in adding and subtracting fractions. Children supported each other today in completing a treasure hunt with high levels of accuracy. Well done guys!
What a year! It seems like only yesterday our current year 6s were only just beginning their last year at NJS. This week, they gave their all in the 2023 SATs week and blew us all away with their resilience, togetherness and problem-solving skills.

This week in our expedition lessons, year 3 have been looking at how earthquakes are formed, in particular tectonic plates. The children used a jigsaw of the world to identify the 7 major plates. Great jobs guys!
What a wonderful day we had celebrating the coronation of King Charles lll despite the change in weather. During in crew, we designed royal book marks and played bottle flipping. The aim was to see how many times we could the bottle in 30 seconds. Well done to Henry who was the winner with 3!
Yesterday, year 3 erupted the wonderful volcanoes that were made in hook week. To make the volcanoes we screwed up newspaper to build the shape and then used papier mache to cover it with layers of newspaper and paper towels. Finally, we pained the and Miss Gate used vinegar and baking powder to create the eruption! What a brilliant afternoon!
To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, year 3 had a very special recorder lesson this morning. We all gathered together in the hall to learn a number of royal coronation themed music and learn all about how music is used within the royal palaces.
This week, year six began their gymnastics journey. Studying balance, the class first took time creating as many different balances as they could in small groups before looking at a mixture of solo and paired balances. Point balances included balances which were support by hands and/or feet whilst patch balances used broader areas of the body such as the back or torso.
The children were asked to create a four balance sequence including two point balances and two patch balances. However, each balance must represent a different fruit or vegetable. Imagination came to the forefront the class created some brilliant sequences, demonstrating control, composure and, of course, balance!
This week, two teams made their way to Campsmount Academy to take part in a tag rugby tournament for year 3/4 and 5/6. Both teams played well, showing speed, agility and plenty of teamwork.
Notable mentions to Charlie in year 4 and Reggie in year 6 for their impressive performances and leadership during the tournament.
