Celebrating VE Day

What a wonderful day celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE day. Children dressed in the patriotic colours of red, white and blue and took part in a thought provoking Crew session, listened carefully during remembrance assembly and observed a minute silence. Lunch was a picnic or traditional fish and chip supper. In the afternoon, 5HJ created these stunning watercolour paintings of a Spitfire mid flight!

Outstanding Artwork

Over the past few weeks, year 5 have worked diligently to complete their pencil sketches of iconic figures who have helped change the world. The children learned skills to use tone to create light and dark and how to proportions facial features accurately. 5HJ selected Nelson Mandela, Michelle Obama and Millicent Fawcett and the completed artwork is phenomenal.

Super Sketching!

to culminate our spring expedition, ‘FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS’, year five have been busy working away on their sketches of iconic figures who have helped change the world. Following a sequence of learning about how to use of tone to create a 3D effect and learning how to accurately sketch features of the face, 5CC began to draft their sketches with the class being given a choice of three: Martin Luther King, Bob Geldof and Lord Shaftesbury. We are looking forward to seeing what their final drafts look like and how they will feature in our final product, the iconic figures calendar.

Inspirational Portraits

Year 6 have been working extremely hard this week on their portraits of inspirational people who have campaigned for what they believe in. The pupils have applied the sketching skills they have practised in art lessons and the portraits are looking really effective. These will feature in a calendar celebrating influential people.

World Book Day!

What a fantastic day! This year, the children threw themselves in to our Alice in Wonderland theme by learning and performing ‘The Jaberwocky’. They showed great courage to perform this (with actions) to our year 4s. The day has inspired us further to create some wonderful watercolour paintings of the monsters within the poem!

World Book Day in Year 6!

Year 6 had an amazing World Book Day this year… we based the day around the Lewis Carroll poem ‘The Jabberwocky’. The pupils dissected the poem then rehearsed it ready to perform for the Year 4 pupils. The children showed confidence and courage when reading aloud and even included actions. We also created some amazing artwork of the weird and wonderful creatures in the poem using watercolours.

World Book Day 2025

Check out the amazing outfits for this year’s World Book Day! Our theme this year is Alice in Wonderland with the children being invited to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. We also spent the day solving the White Rabbit’s time problems as well as sketching our own interpretation of the Mad Hatter’s Hat!

The power of critique

In hook week, the children drew pencil sketches of their eyes, which were fantastic. However, we weren’t done. We knew we could improve! Multiple discussions, reflections, suggestions and after a great deal of patience and perseverance, the children completed another draft (in some cases another 2 drafts). The finished products are incredible and just shows the power of this process.

Industrial Revolution Artwork! 🖌️🎨🖼️

On Friday morning, the talented artists of 6CC embarked on a creative adventure, putting their drawing and watercolour skills to the test. The result? A stunning collection of Lowry-inspired final products that captured the essence of Doncaster’s prominent architecture from the Industrial Revolution.

With great attention to detail, the children meticulously recreated the city’s historical landmarks, breathing life into the iconic structures that once stood witness to the transformative era. The Industrial Revolution’s impact on Doncaster’s landscape served as the perfect backdrop for this artistic exploration. Still more work to do to finish these masterpieces and mimic Lowry’s the dull, industrial effect!
