Year 6 have started their mini Christmas expedition and were given the guiding question, ‘How did the Victorians influence our Christmas traditions?’ We began by looking at A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and analysing the characters. The pupils took part in a silent conversation whereby they used descriptive vocabulary to describe some of the characters from the story. The vocabulary that they generated will support their character description writing.

Christmas Crafts at NJS!
What an absolutely amazing afternoon we had this week at NJS! Parental engagement has been a source of real frustration over the last 18 months and we haven’t always had the opportunity to work with our wonderful families. However, on the afternoon of Monday 6th December, we invited a family member of each year 4 child to engage in a Christmas crafts afternoon. Here, we created tree decorations using Hama beads as well as make Christmas cards for friends and family. Overall, is was a super afternoon and I thank all involved for making it work. Christmas is coming…
Stockings of success!

The class enjoyed sinking their teeth (or needles rather) into the task of making their own Christmas stockings from scratch. With resilience and the support of their parents, guardians and teachers, the class produced some fine, festive designs. Thank you to all the adults who came in to visit their children. We hope you have a very, merry Christmas! 🎄

Christmas Crafts
This afternoon 5EG enjoyed the beginning of our Christmas celebrations by welcoming parents into our school to create and decorate a Christmas gift box. With a little bit of imagination and inspiration, and of course some Christmas tunes, everyone created a beautiful gift box ready to be filled.

Year 5 Visit to Danum Museum

This week, as part of their The Magic of Motion expedition, year 5 and 6 visited the Rail Heritage Centre at Danum Museum, which is home to two impressive locomotives (No. 251 and Green Arrow) and a large selection of railway memorabilia from the Doncaster Grammar School rail collection. The children were also treated to a fantastic workshop that explored how trains have been on a journey of change over the years. This supplemented their classroom learning brilliantly and provided an exciting, hands-on experience for all of our pupils.
Magnificent Multiplication!
This week, 4TE has been grappling with multiplication using grid method. Today we have been battling the same challenge as a crew, we are getting better!!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Yesterday, 3HJ saw the return of our very own pesky elf – Egbert! We noticed that he had climbed into our Christmas tree and hidden amongst the branches with a letter from Santa at the North Pole.
Crew Jenkins really got into the Christmas spirt decorating the Christmas tree and adding lots of tinsel to the classroom! I really hope our friend Egbert isn’t going to be too much trouble!

When two worlds collide!
Budding historians!
Year 5 enjoyed their trip to the Danum Museum today, and expanded their knowledge of the history of trains even further! They participated in a workshop exploring artefacts and completed a scavenger hunt around the museum! A great day was had by everyone!
