This week, 4TE has been grappling with multiplication using grid method. Today we have been battling the same challenge as a crew, we are getting better!!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Yesterday, 3HJ saw the return of our very own pesky elf – Egbert! We noticed that he had climbed into our Christmas tree and hidden amongst the branches with a letter from Santa at the North Pole.
Crew Jenkins really got into the Christmas spirt decorating the Christmas tree and adding lots of tinsel to the classroom! I really hope our friend Egbert isn’t going to be too much trouble!

Budding historians!
Year 5 enjoyed their trip to the Danum Museum today, and expanded their knowledge of the history of trains even further! They participated in a workshop exploring artefacts and completed a scavenger hunt around the museum! A great day was had by everyone!
Need for steam (and speed)!
Year 6 enjoyed a thrilling trip to the recently opened Danum museum in Doncaster City Centre on Wednesday. Learning about Doncaster’s deep rail heritage that began with George Edmundson; the classes learned about the mechanic of steam locomotives as well as the business brought to Doncaster that developed it into one of the UK’s industrial heavy weights.
Definitely worth a family visit!

Danum Museum Visit
Year 6 had a fantastic day at Danum Museum learning all about Doncaster’s rail heritage. We saw two impressive locomotives and found out about how Doncaster Plant Works shaped Doncaster. The children behaved impeccably which was noted by the museum staff!
We’re looking for a Science Teacher and Science Lead at XP Doncaster!
Spelling Tennis
Ok, so in the pantheon of amazing things teacher’s get to, well, teach, ‘Spelling’ isn’t always up there with the ore and wonder of a physics experiment or Relentless Roman’s history lesson. However, not to be deterred, we have some weird and wonderful ways of teaching spelling at NJS, not least through playing tennis with letters. Here, children pick a word from our weekly spelling lists and bat each letter of the word back and forward calling the letter out as they do. Of course, we have some interesting ‘grunts’ and ‘groans’ as the children attempt a cross court backhand and I could have sworn that Maria Sharapova herself was amongst my flock this week. Anyway, marvel at the ‘joy’ of learning different spellings from the happy faces of 4GC on the pictures below!

We love reading!
Accelerated reader is now in full flow at NJS and 6SO are thoroughly enjoying reading for pleasure every day. This session is helping to improve the children’s reading fluency and improving their vocabulary. The pupils are performing well in their comprehension quizzes and are working hard to achieve at least 85% in each quiz.

Becoming artists!
This week 5EG have been practicing their artistic skills by sketching trains from different time periods. They have studied original pieces of artwork and committed to producing their own piece of artwork ready for our final product reveal. Next week we will introduce the watercolours!
