6CC held their own Celebration of Learning event on Wednesday 23rd February where they spoke to parents and carers about their Autumn expedition, ‘The Magic of Motion’. Following a highlight reel of the expedition (as seen below), the children talked their audience through the stages of their learning journey and explained important parts of their learning, particularly how steam was harnessed to power locomotives of old.
Newly appointed math’s teachers.
Good morning everyone and a huge welcome back to all our amazing pupils here at Norton Junior School. This week, I am pleased to announce the temporary appointment of 15 new maths teachers at NJS. Here, these guys were drafted in to teach our students place value and during my observations, I am delighted to say that I rated their teaching ‘outstanding’ – not by my standards, but those outlined by OfSTED. Unfortunately, however, due to complications with HR and payroll, the students won’t be financially rewarded for their work, not unless, of course, you count the embedding of mathematical knowledge as suitable remuneration for their efforts.
Have a great weekend!

Multi-Sports Mayhem!
This week, we have been getting very active once again! We have been getting busy with a variety of PE games! As you can see, we were working very hard for our teams,
Division using a number line
This week saw 3HJ grappling with division. We used number lines to help solve a range of worded problems involving the children jumping in groups of 10. They worked collaboratively, supporting each other and I was astonished how quickly 3HJ grasped this new and tricky concept. Amazing work from everyone!
Magic of Motion Product Launch!
On Tuesday, 6SO their fantastic final product from our Magic of Motion autumn term expedition. The pupils shared their learning with parents and carers before revealing magnificent board explaining the development of British Railways throughout history. The board will be displayed at a local train station in the very near future!
Donny Rovers PE Madness
This term 3LG are lucky enough to be coached by Donny Rovers for their PE lessons every week. We have already had lots of fun developing our multi-sports skills, and the children’s competitive side has definitely emerged! We can’t wait to be outside playing even more exciting games next week.
Welcome to the percentage shop!
The first morning back and the year 6 crews have been busy at work calculating Mr Hewitt’s new prices for his bargain basement. Using their knowledge of finding percentages of amounts, the children overcame a range of (discounts) obstacles. Well done to the crews as well for their peer support and mentoring that preceded the discount finding fun!
Show and Tell!
To bookmark the end of this extremely enjoyable first half of the spring term, 4TE held a show and tell at the start of Friday. It was so lovely to see all the brilliant items so many of the children decided to bring in and to hear the stories and sentiments behind these. It was a pleasure to experience and I am extremely proud of the children not only having the confidence to stand up before the class, but to also feel comfortable to bring in such precious and cherished items and to share these with everyone.
On a final note, I hope everyone has an absolutely lovely half term break and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!
Recorders at the ready!
Sadly, today was the last of our recorder lessons. 3HJ have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to follow standard notation, play in unison and maintain their own part in a group. We were very lucky to have this opportunity and can’t wait to keep practising the skills we have learnt.
Fitness Fun!
Another exciting and fun PE session with Donnie Rovers! The children have learnt the importance of collaborative teamwork and regular active sessions to keep fit and healthy! Well done 5EG
