A huge thank you to all the staff, pupils and parents who have supported us throughout our expedition this term. The pupils have produced some absolutely amazing learning and they are extremely proud of their final product. This week, year 5 have been hard at work learning and utilising an ancient preservation method on our bananas. As we delve into the world of Ancient Egyptians, we start to discover some of the many interesting traditions they had. The preservation of pharaohs using mummification was a particularly interesting one.
In addition to learning the method, we obviously had to get hands on and give it a go ourselves.

A huge congratulations to our newest inductees into the TT Rock Stars Hall of Fame! This week, both of these rockers showed an incredible determination to improve their times table fluency. Daniel improved his rock speed by 1.79 seconds in just one week, whilst Spencer earned over 9,000 coins! Outstanding effort you two! Keep rocking!

This week in 5RH, we have started our unit of work on action sequences.
We have watched a range of great film action sequences and looked at how this is effectively translated to written work. Today we read a brilliant action sequence and acted this out in the classroom to evaluate how effectively the author created suspense, excitement, speed and tension.
Also, it was great fun!
This week, the children thoroughly enjoyed practising and sharing their informal multiplication strategies by writing on their desks! This enabled the pupils to test and share various strategies in order to find the methods that they felt the most confident in using.
Today, we had a visit from local man Jojo Brown. Growing up in Doncaster to Ghanaian parents, Jojo came in today to discuss his childhood experiences and the pressing issues he still sees today within our modern society. We discussed inequality and diversity and what this means to him and the children, giving some context to some of our ‘Moments that changed the world’ photographs (Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King).

The emotional turmoil caused by Fruitella in 5RH was unbelievable.
The children were given a small insight into wealth inequality using sweets. The words ‘That’s not fair.’ were uttered on a number of occasions and then we explored the impact that these social inequalities could have on the life chances of people within our society.
Luckily, the children decided that equality was essential for the crew to remain harmonious and they decided to redistribute the sweets more fairly so that they were all able to enjoy a Fruitella at break time.
A truly selfless act 5RH, caring about everyone within our society (crew).
If it’s good enough for our children, its good enough for our staff too… Everything that you are doing in class, we are doing too!
We have also be revisiting our Core Values that we set together as a whole community 5 years ago. Here we are unpicking exactly what it looks like to embrace our values and identify our own HOWLs – Habits of Work and Learning. HOWLS help us demonstrate how we are working to be the best version of ourselves or as we like to say, “Being the BEST version of ME!”
Our Autumn expedition is now fully up and running. Steve Nightingale (local photography expert) came in to work with year 5&6 and deliver a fantastic informative workshop. In addition to exploring an incredible range of the best up to date cameras on the market, the children also looked at the history of photography and the evolution of the camera. We were also given an insight into tricks of the trade and photography at a microscopic level.
A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting session.

On Thursday, 5RS were lucky enough to receive a visit from a local photography expert! The children learned all about the history of the camera and explored how photography has changed over time. Mr Nightingale shared some wonderful snap shots of local wildlife that inspired our pupils to look around their gardens in search of possible subjects for their own photography journeys at home.
