A Special Visitor!

This week Year 4 had a very special visitor in the form of a Roman called Ronulus! The children got to see and learn all about Roman weaponry and artifacts, even being able to handle some of them! This, alongside the children being dressed in Roman attire meant Year 4 had transported back 2000 years for the day! The children got to demonstrate some of the military strategies they had learnt from Ronulus using the shields they had made last week. NJS really had turned into Ancient Rome for the day!

We are Crew!

This week 5EG have been getting to know each other and enjoying different activities in Crew. Lots of collaborative working and wand making! They have been supporting each other in a maths treasure hunt, learning new sports skills with help from Doncaster Rovers, and having some time away from the sun reading a book!

Wicked Wizards

Look at our young Hogwarts students duelling with their homemade wands! The pupils had to decide which ingredients to include inside their wands that reflected their personal qualities. These ranged from unicorn hair to represent honesty to lion claws for courage! The finished wands look fantastic….EXPELLIARMUS!

Maths in the great outdoors!

The recent heatwave has made classroom learning a little… toasty, and so on Wednesday, 6CC and 6SO opted for an outdoor Maths treasure hunt aiming to boost their place value problem-solving skills!

Looking to build a winning team spirit, they have also enjoyed rounders in the sun on Wednesday afternoon and taken part in some team building activities during morning crew each day. Onwards and upwards for 6CC (no brooms needed)!

I solemnly swear we have been up to no good…

If you’d have examined 6CC’s activity on the Marauder’s map, you’d have noticed how busy their week has been, from participating in their very own Hogwarts’ sorting ceremony to making their own magical wands!

During their first week back, the class also took part in a range of enchanting activities such as quidditch, defence against the dark arts and potion making. As their professor this year, it has been lovely to see the teamwork and determination shown by each member of the class in every activity, however Gryffindor are the leading the house points charts after the first week. Let’s hope the other houses catch up in due course!

The Crew Gate Roman Army

Battle Ready

And here we have it, a selection of our finished Roman shields modelled by a selection of our fierce Roman Centurions. To create our shields, the children designed and critiqued their work before finalising their ideas before the construction phase could begin. Here, the children initially painted their shields before adding decorative wings, lightening bolts and borders out of silver and gold paper. Finally, the children used the base of used plastic bottles as the shields ‘boss’ which they painted silver. Of course, the legend that is Mrs Ball added the handles on the reverse and then our shields were complete. Indeed, there’s a little bit of work to do before they will be ship shape and ready for combat however as their self-entitled lieutenant, and of course having the added advantage of growing up on the mean streets of Rotherham, I feel more than prepared for the demands of the role.

Mr Chadwick

Truly Legion!

What a fantastic start to the school year by 4GC! They have settled brilliantly, worked hard and demonstrated our core values in abundance throughout the week. This term’s expedition is entitled ‘Relentless Romans’ and we have been busy this week making Roman shields, traditional mosaics and even and centurion’s battle helmet! In these accompanying pictures, you can marvel at the detail and precision at which these shields have been put together. Perhaps the best way to summarise our efforts this week is through the Roman Latin phrase ‘Carpe Diem‘…Indeed, 4GC have Seized the Day.

Relentless Romans

3HJ have been immersed in everything Roman this week.

Here you can see the wonderful shields that have been designed. painted and decorated. We used our observation skills to make them as authentic as possible and are very proud of our results!

Movie Magic!

During their first day back, the Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in lots of exciting Harry Potter themed activities as part of our ‘The Magic of Motion’ exhibition. The children dressed up as witches and wizards and through the magic of technology, photo shopped themselves into various Harry Potter movie sets!
