Gory Gladiators

This week, 3HJ have had the pleasure of learning all about the gruesome lives of Roman gladiators. We have discovered many horrifying facts ranging from fighting with wild animals to women slaves also being thrown in to the colosseum to battle. We have been fully immersed in this new learning which kicked off with a ‘Silent Conversation’ where the children had to decide whether a whole host of facts were true or false. Children then learnt about the the different types of armour and how they were trained at school for battles. It has been wonderful to see everyone so engaged in their learning. Well done 3HJ! Now …… let’s do battle!

Harry Kane watch your back!

3LG have been honing their football skills this week in PE, working on their dribbling, passing and shooting. They have been working really hard on controlling the ball and working together as a team. The children worked both on their own to develop their ball skills and in groups to coach each other’s technique with the ball.

Chance To Dance

This year, Y3 are working with the Royal Opera House on the Chance To Dance programme. Through this programme the children will be working on the Royal Ballet Alice in Wonderland. This week the children came up with 8 beat movements that they thought expressed the different characters from the ballet. The children used their imagination to transform into the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and Alice. They thought about how all the different would act and used this to put together small routines in the style of the Alice ballet.

Chance To Dance

Last week saw the launch of our new and exciting dance program ‘Chance To Dance’. Year 3 visited Cast in Doncaster to watch an exceptional performance from the Royal Ballet! Our focus is Alice In Wonderland and we have been working hard to create motifs for the main characters – Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts. Children have thought carefully how to portray their characters through movements and facial expressions which we then put to music!

Doncaster Museum

A day at Doncaster Museum

Last week year 3 got the chance to visit the brand new Doncaster Museum. After the excitement of travelling on a coach, the children had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic Roman workshop. During the workshop, the children dressed up as Romans and Celts, handled 2000 year old artefacts, designed Roman mosaics and even played Roman board games. After the workshop, we got the opportunity to explore the rest of the museum, with the children taking a particular liking to the interactive art!

The children represented the school wonderfully, and I received lots of lovely feedback from members of the public about how polite and respectful the children had been as they were going around the museum. Well done 3LG!

A very Roman visit from Ronulus

Rewind some 2000 years and 3HJ found themselves in Roman Britain! What a wonderful day we had learning all about the Roman way of life from a huge selection of artefacts including children’s toys, coins and jewellery. The children got so much from a hands on learning approach and we’re amazed to discover how Ronulus spent his time!
Check out the amazing costumes too!

Relentless fun with Roman Ron

Today Year 3 were transported back in time to Roman Britain. The children dressed up as Romans and even had a visit from Roman Ron. They spent the morning learning all about roman artefacts, from children’s toys and games to parts of a wall! This afternoon the children then took part in a “Roman Army Workshop”, where they learned to march and stand to attention like the Roman Army. We think y3 look amazing in the Roman armour, even if the helmets were a little big!
