Nearing the conclusion of our learning about perimeter, area and volume , 6CC began looking at the space occupied by three dimensional shapes today. By manipulating cubes, they investigated how to find the volume of cubes with varying height before exploring a variety of random 3D shapes and finding their volumes.
World book day. Bookshelves with hand drawn lettering.
We are going to be celebrating World Book Day in school (NIS and NJS) on Friday 3rd March 2023. Activities will be happening throughout the day in classes.
If children would like to dress up on this day – they are very welcome to do so. However, we would like to stress there is no obligation for anyone to go out and spend money on costumes. If children choose not to dress up they are welcome to come in their own clothes or pyjamas ready for a ‘bedtime’ story!
We are looking forward to celebrating all things book related together.
During yesterday’s crew session, year 3 had a lovely time eating delicious pancakes. It was a tough choice between Nutella, golden syrup, strawberry syrup or lemon with a sprinkle of sugar. Which topping is your favourite?
Happy pancake day from Y3! Yesterday for crew we had a lovely morning eating pancakes. With a choice of either nutella, golden sugar, strawberry syrup and the classic lemon and sugar we were spoilt for choice.
A big thank you to Mrs Jenkins who spent her Monday night making 70 crepes!!
Last Friday, our school took part in a pyjama day to raise funds for The Children’s Hospital Charity. We all loved rolling straight out of bed and heading into school. We designed our own onesies too!
To celebrate Comic Relief this year, we are inviting you to come to school on Friday 17th March dressed in red with a suggested donation of £1 (to be paid on ParentPay).
As part of Red Nose Day we are launching our very own Design a T-shirt Competition! If you want to take part, all you need to do is design your very own Red Nose Day t-shirt and bring it with you on Friday 17th March.
Get creative and design it in any way you want!
You might want to draw a picture, paint it or even create a t-shirt you can wear on the day. Each crew will vote for their winning design to be entered into a whole school competition.
Have you got what it takes to be our winning design? Good Luck!
To promote Children’s Mental Health Week all crews in Year 3 played a couple of games of ’Let’s Connect Bingo’. It was lovely to see children connecting with each other, finding others with shared interests, building new friendships and most importantly having fun! And yes – Mrs Gill loves pepperoni pizza!
Last week myself and Miss Gate had the absolute please of taking these wonder children to the Utilita Arena in Sheffield for this years Young Voices concert. Each and every child sang from their heart and were exceptionally well behaved. It was such a fantastic night and all staff couldn’t have been prouder!
Year 6 began the week by investigating perimeter and took to measuring the perimeter of rectilinear shapes in the classroom using a variety of equipment. After recapping units of measurement and how some units were best suited for particular contexts (such as km for measuring the distance from school to the local Coop and centimetres for the length of a pencil), the children began to explore perimeter practically. They measured the perimeter of their books whiteboards, boxes, tables, joined tables and much more. Great effort, 6CC!
Year 6 BasketballTournament
6EG and 6CC took to the courts on Wednesday morning for a basketball tournament to culminate their PE topic. Skills that had been taught through the sequence were on show with children also demonstrating leadership and sportsmanship qualities by motivating and celebrating team members!
Year 6 took the annual trip to Crucial Crew in Rotherham to learn about important life scenarios and emergencies. Throughout the day, children were invited to take part in dramatisations and problem solve, with support from specialist instructors from the police and fire service.
