Cube Investigation

This week in year 5 we have been investigating 3D shapes. Today, we challenged the children to find all the possible nets of a cube. Through perseverance, great visualisation and fantastic co-operation, all of the groups managed to find a vast majority of all 11 possibilities and had some great fun in the process.

Re-UNITED

After a hotly anticipated return date, our amazing pupils finally entered the grounds in earnest following an enforced absence from school. Alas, there were elbow bumps and smiles aplenty followed by a day of fun activities to reconnect with each other. It was the first time in a long time that we felt any sort of normality as not having a full compliment of children in the classroom, well, just isn’t the same. Indeed, this might be a timely reminder to say a massive ‘thank you’ and ‘well done’ to all the wonderful families who have worked tirelessly to support your children working from home. Now, we have our collective fingers crossed (and facemasks on) in the hope that the following weeks and months will allow for more freedoms for our staff, children and community. Better days are indeed ahead.

Tasty and delicious

First at foremost, it is wonderful to see the children back in the classroom together as a full CREW once more. I know that the children have been rather excited about seeing their friends and getting back to some sense of normal schooling.

On the first day back, the children had the opportunity to bake some bread by following a method. The end result was rather satisfying and tasty!

Shape shifters!

This week, Year 6 have been learning all about the properties of 3D shapes. We have solved tricky shapes problems and also investigated the nets of cubes in teams.

Parent Governor Vacancy (2 posts)

We greatly value the views of our parents, carers and local community members and are seeking to welcome additional community representation on our newly formed Local Governing Committee.

Would you like to work with us, to support and challenge us, and to help shape the future of education for the children in our community?

Do you have the right skills, personal characteristics and a little time to dedicate to us?

Please complete the form to either request further information or to submit your expression of interest and Supporting Statement.

Personal Statements of no more than 200 words to be submitted to school BY FRIDAY 12TH MARCH, 2021. If there are more applications than places available, the Local Governing Committee will then hold a vote, using completed Supporting Statements to recruit to the two vacant posts. Successful candidates will be informed immediately thereafter and all applicants will be informed of the final outcome.

Laughter all around

Myself and the children have been very entertained this week. This is because of the fantastic play scripts that the children have written based on the famous puppet show, ‘Punch and Judy’. The quality and standard yet again has been excellent and the work submitted has really put a smile on the faces of the staff and children.

Something else to smile about is the return of all children to school from next Monday. I am looking forward to seeing you all.

(Mr Punch was looking around the zoo for some interesting animals. Mr Punch saw a pond but before he knew it an enormous crocodile came out of the pond and splashed Mr Punch.)

Mr Punch:(Yells) CROCODILE!

(Mr Punch runs off stage as fast as he can with the crocodile chasing after him).

Judy: (turning around) Where has Mr Punch gone now?

(Mr Ppunch enters back on stage with the crocodile clinging onto his bum with his teeth)

Judy: Where have you been?

Mr Punch: I was looking at the animals and then this happened!

(Mr Punch turns around to show Judy the crocodile on his bum)

Mr Punch: (Shouts) Go away mean crocodile!

Judy: How did you get a crocodile on your bum?

Mr Punch: He sneaked up behind me, I must taste nice because he won’t let go. Help me get him off.!

Judy: Turn around and iI’ll pull him off

(Mr Punch turns around and Judy tries to pull the crocodile off)

The Tragedy of Punch and Judy

Scene 5 – The haunted house

Character list – Punch, Judy, Ghost

(The stage is set in the castle)

Punch: Ah, ahhh (screams) Judy, get up here now!

(Judy comes on stage)

Judy: What is it?

Punch: There’s a ghost!

Judy: Well where is it? (bellowed loudly)

Punch: Behind you (trembling with fear)

(Judy turns around and so does the ghost so she can’t see it)

Judy: Well where is it then?

Punch: It’s still behind you.

(Judy leaves the stage and returns with a cricket bat)

Judy: So where’s this ghost then?

(The ghost appears behind Judy again)

Punch: It’s behind you again.

(Judy turns around and quickly turns back to face Punch)

(The ghost is now between Punch and Judy)

Judy: I’ve got you now.

World Book Day

Well, what an amazing day we had putting a rather quirky twist on a traditional World Book Day by doing NJS’s very own version of ‘The Masked Reader’. Here, we had 13 staff members taking part by recording themselves reading their favorite stories. Following this, we shared those stories with our little bookworms and asked them to guess who the staff member was behind the mask. Needless to say, we had an awful lot of fun in doing this. Happy World Book Day Everybody!

World Book Day 2021

Although we could not have World Book Day as we would have liked to, children and staff, whether they are in school or at home, have made a great effort to dress up. It was lovely to see many of our remote learners making an effort to dress up at their favourite book characters.

Masked Reader Challenge

Pensive faces and wry smiles. Just a few of the expressions on the children’s faces today (along with plenty of giggles of course) as they watched the Masked Reader Challenge videos prepared by NJS staff for World Book Day. The staff at NJS have looked to deceive the minds of their children by reading their favourite story books using face filters and wacky masks – even toilet roll in one case. Can you work out which teacher is behind the the mask? Undertake the challenge by clicking here!

Thank you to all the children, parents and staff for their efforts in the run up to and on World Book Day! I know I speak for all staff when I say we can not wait to be seeing our full classes on Monday 8th March! 😁
