ART ATTACK!

During the last week before a well-deserved half term, 6CC worked tremendously hard to refine their drawing skills in preparation for drafting part of the final product for this term’s expedition. After some continuous line drawing, the children drew the outlines of iconic pictures from our history before experimenting with a variety of media to apply colour to their creations.

Upon returning to school on the 2nd November, our crew will be on a mission to finalise their pictures. Be on the lookout for our calendar in the near future!

Cardinal points and using a compass

This week 3HJ have been looking at how compasses work and learning how to use them correctly.

We spent time orientating the compass to find the cardinal points. Finally, we planned a route using directions across the playground.

A tricky concept but we all did so well!

This Week’s Crew Celebrations

Congratulations to all our winners…

Here’s another reason to celebrate. After much deliberation, Mrs Ball and Mrs Watters settled on Will for this week’s superhero: a very deserving winner…

Congratulations to Liam for becoming this week’s Crew Rock Star by amassing an impressive 17 574 coins over the last 7 days – awesome work!

Further congratulations is reserved for Lois who was voted (by her Crew) as this week’s Children’s Champion. Check out some of the comments below that were given as reasons by her peers. Very well done Lois.

And finally, here’s a trio of Special Mention’s (Toby, Elisha & Georgia) for some quite superb jottings during a math’s activity. Yes, I went a little overboard with the stamps and stickers but you would, wouldn’t you?

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

A very busy yet exciting week for 6CC! Delving further into our expedition, the children learned about the different kinds of discrimination in our history and how these key battles for equality have shaped our current landscape today. The insightful visit on Wednesday  helped the children to empathise with victims of discrimination. Well done, Crew CC!

Messy Maths!

Mathematics all over the tables today! We have been learning a variety of different methods to calculate addition problems… and making lots of mess along the way!

Adapting in science

In science this week, we have been learning about how animals are adapted to their environments. We looked at different species of animals and how they are suited to survive in their environment and focused on the ones that are specifically adapted to tropical climates. We enjoyed learning about different animals from around the world and even learnt the names of the seven continents of the world.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

6SO have been working hard to produce some beautiful observational sketches of cameras over the past few weeks. Here are just a few of the amazing final sketches and we think you’ll agree, they are outstanding! These beautiful drawings will feature as part of a calendar that Year 5 and 6 are creating based on their current expedition ‘Photographs that changed the world’. The calendar will be professionally printed and available to buy at Christmas time so watch this space!

What does inequality mean to you?

Today, we had a visit from local man Jojo Brown. Growing up in Doncaster to Ghanaian parents, Jojo came in today to discuss his childhood experiences and the pressing issues he still sees today within our modern society. We discussed inequality and diversity and what this means to him and the children, giving some context to some of our ‘Moments that changed the world’ photographs (Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King).

Cheers Jojo.
