Our contribution to @ELeducation‘s #BetterWorldDay – an exclusive preview of ‘Dear World’, a song written by our LKS2 students from Plover, Green Top, Carcroft and Norton Juniors
5EG have had a fab day learning about how medicine has changed over the years at Thackray Medical Museum. They walked down Disease Street, learnt about how surgery has developed, and pandemics have evolved.
Happy Friday – here’s a selection of beautiful work from across the XP Trust this week!

Today we came dressed in blue and yellow, and gave generous donations to support families struggling with the atrocities happening in the Ukraine. Closer to home we decided to go litter picking to clean up our local area, well done 5EG!
Today we came dressed in yellow and blue for Better World Day 2022. We chose yellow and blue as our theme in support of Ukraine.
What a way to kick off the Summer Term in earnest by our amazing y5/6 pupils reigning victorious in last week’s Play on The Pitch football competition! The final, against Kirk Sandall Juniors, was an entertaining affair with the team eventually sealing victory through a penalty shootout – Jacob making two outstanding saves in the process. As well as performing on the pitch, the attitudes of our children were, as usual, exemplary. Congratulations to all and special praise is reserved for Mrs Batty and Mr Hayward who accompanied our children on the day.
Our Friday in 6CC began with a bang as the class split themselves into teams to take on a Kahoot! quiz: revision edition. Each team battled it out to become the quiz master, utilising their knowledge and understanding of shape.
Magnificent mentoring!
As we prepare for SATs, the children have stepped up their efforts to mentor and listen to the feedback of their peers, particularly in Maths. As you can see below, our arithmetic pairs have been working exceptionally hard to revise previous learning and refine their maths skills. Might I add that their mentors have been doing a pretty fine job too!
Above: When learning about scale factors, the children worked hard to increase a picture of Mario or Luigi by a scale factor of two!
NOW HIRING: SATs SPAG QUESTION DESIGNERS!
SPAG revision took more of a creative focus last week as the children worked in pairs to design their own SPAG test: 8 questions with a focus of eight SPAG areas. When finished, the pairs then swapped tests with another pair and worked through their questions to see if they could achieve full marks!
This week 5EG became apothecary’s and doctors. They had to use their skills and knowledge to diagnose illnesses from urine samples (or water with food colouring!) They then created a cure for an illness from 1665, by mixing herbs and designing a bottle and label.
