Why should Doncaster remember the Romans?

Math’s Week 2021

279 Coins in 3 minutes – Wow!

It’s that special time of the year where schools shine a light on all things mathematics. This year, NJS and NIS are working collaboratively to raise the profile of the subject by engaging in TTR Band Battles and as you can see from the picture above, we have had some oustanding performances across the two classes within my yeargroup. Although these are the children’s rock names – for obvious reasons – I must point to our top performer Torres who has honed his skills over the last two years and become beyond proficient in his recall of times tables facts. They’ll be more battles happening across school today so keep a look out for other posts that will share our math’s story.

In addition to this, our schools are working together to create a campus piece of math’s of tesselating artwork which should be quite splendid.

Stay tuned…

Crazy Crew Caricatures!

As part of our Friday crew session, 6CC took it upon themselves to creatively reimagine each other through the artistic scope of Caricature.

As you can imagine, the excessively large noses, bulging eyes and wacky jawlines resulted in quite a roar of laughter. Full of smiles and laughter, perfect way to begin the end of the week!

Basking in Basketball!

That’s right. NJS have been back only a few days after half term but were staright into the pyramid competitions by competing in a basketball festival. Even though the prepration had been minimal, the children who participated very much did some ‘on the job leanring’ and grew in confidence and stature as the competition wore on. Below are some pictures of the team bedecked in their classic NJS stadium tracktops – striking a casual group pose then conversely, and rather frantically, participating in a mass warm up. As always, our children represented the school by demonstarting all our core values and being the absolute best version of themseves: a real credit to NJS. Well done all!

Doncaster Plant Works!

On Monday, 6CC delved into the industrial history of “The Plant” aka Doncaster Plant Works. This organisation provided Victorian Doncaster with new employment opportunities as well as a name for producing some of the world’s most famous locomotives.

Arithmetic Buddies

This afternoon, the children worked collaboratively to critique and correct their arithmetic strategies. Through listening and learning from each other, our crew are making tremendous progress in their number knowledge! Well done 5RS!

Making Music!

This week 5EG have been exploring making music! We have been practicing keeping the beat, passing the sound along and following a rhythm. Over the next few weeks we will be creating our own piece of music based on the sounds of the different trains we have been learning about.

Balancing Act!

Year 6 have started a new unit of work in PE tis half term: gymnastics! We began by looking at different kinds of balance. The pupils worked in pairs and offered critique to one another via our praise and wonder protocol to help each other to improve. It was great to see the children collaborating and supporting one another.
