Donny Rovers PE Madness

This term 3LG are lucky enough to be coached by Donny Rovers for their PE lessons every week. We have already had lots of fun developing our multi-sports skills, and the children’s competitive side has definitely emerged! We can’t wait to be outside playing even more exciting games next week.

Welcome to the percentage shop!

The first morning back and the year 6 crews have been busy at work calculating Mr Hewitt’s new prices for his bargain basement. Using their knowledge of finding percentages of amounts, the children overcame a range of (discounts) obstacles. Well done to the crews as well for their peer support and mentoring that preceded the discount finding fun!

Show and Tell!

To bookmark the end of this extremely enjoyable first half of the spring term, 4TE held a show and tell at the start of Friday. It was so lovely to see all the brilliant items so many of the children decided to bring in and to hear the stories and sentiments behind these. It was a pleasure to experience and I am extremely proud of the children not only having the confidence to stand up before the class, but to also feel comfortable to bring in such precious and cherished items and to share these with everyone.

On a final note, I hope everyone has an absolutely lovely half term break and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Fitness Fun!

Another exciting and fun PE session with Donnie Rovers! The children have learnt the importance of collaborative teamwork and regular active sessions to keep fit and healthy! Well done 5EG

Deforestation Debates

This week, we transported year 5 into the depths of the Amazon Rainforest to take part in an important debate to determine whether more land should be bought from a local indigenous community to be used for industry. Many other parties that are affected by deforestation in the rainforest also decided to attend the meeting as they wished to have their voices heard.

Using this learning hook, our children worked collaboratively in small groups to write an argument for or against deforestation from the perspective of one of these groups, which resulted in some outstanding persuasive writing! Fantastic work 5RS!

What is the impact of deforestation?

This week, Year 6 have been investigating the impact of deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest. Our first lesson focused on the negative aspects such as habitat loss and the impact cutting down trees has on the climate emergency. We then went on to explore why deforestation is taking place such as space for cattle farms and creating space for a growing population. The children created word art showing the negative and positive effects. We will be using what we have learnt within a class debate!
