Reading Gym

Over the past few weeks, 5HJ have worked hard to develop reading fluency and prosody. This week, we have learnt about the differences between the suffragists and suffragettes, completing ‘reading gym’ sessions where the children read quietly to themselves for a given length of time. This has really helped develop our stamina for reading.

Investigating digestion!

This week 3EG have investigated how the digestion system works by taking part in the tight experiment! The children used a sandwich bag to resemble the stomach, and filled it with biscuits, banana, water and orange juice. They then squashed and squeezed the bag to break the food down, as it would be in the stomach. The mixture was then put through a tight leg to resemble the intestine. The experiment bought science to life for the children, and was incredibly messy!

3SG learn to Salsa

In music this half term we are learning the rhythm of Salsa music! We are practising using dance moves to understand the rhythm and body percussion to get the beat. Well done to 3SG for getting stuck in and working on their moves!!

Creating our information text!

We have been working in pairs to write a fun and creative informal text about the skeletal system. Using Models of Excellence (that include lots of humor and imagination), pupils transformed a basic scientific topic into an engaging, lighthearted text, making learning both entertaining and informative. This will be presented to reception children at the end of the term!

Table Mathematics!

Today, Year 4 have been flexing their mathematical muscles by demonstarting their recent proficiency towards grid method multipliation! These messy multiplications showed the children’s grasp and they fully enjoyed themselves. Whether this enjoyment came from the maths or writing on the tables, remains to be seen!

The power of critique

In hook week, the children drew pencil sketches of their eyes, which were fantastic. However, we weren’t done. We knew we could improve! Multiple discussions, reflections, suggestions and after a great deal of patience and perseverance, the children completed another draft (in some cases another 2 drafts). The finished products are incredible and just shows the power of this process.
