3LG have an expert visitor

Today 3LG have been extremely excited to welcome an expert visitor into school. We talked all about the Second World War and the children asked lots incredible questions.

As part of our work towards creating our final product we have been thinking about why it is important to share stories from World War Two. We cannot wait to start writing about all the information we have learned today!

Spooky Halloween

What a frightening start to the half term we had with this lot of scary folk. 3HJ had a wonderful day completing a whole host of spooky activities from writing to creating their own death masks. Enjoy trick or treating! 🎃👻💀

Happy Halloween!

Y3 have had a spooky start back to school today. Everybody dazzled in their amazing halloween costumes. We had everything from pumpkins to witches and skeletons to werewolves.
After sharing our exciting half term stories in crew, we spent the day completing a number of halloween themed tasks such as making our own halloween characters, designing pumpkins and using our maths knowledge to solve a mystery.

WW2 Newsreports

To consolidate the knowledge and understanding the children have acquired during our first case study, 3HJ were asked to present a news report to their peers about an aspect of their choice. This could have been all about evacuation, The Blitz or rationing. The children wrote their own scripts in small groups including reporters and eye witnesses. They were all super factual and included great detail. Great job all round from year 3!

Baking Wartime Bread

To celebrate the end of our first case study of our Lest We Forget expedition, year 3 have used their knowledge and understanding of rationing as well as measures to bake bread from a traditional WW2 recipe. Obviously, the best part was getting stuck in with kneading and I have to say the bread was absolutely delicious and went down a treat!

Wartime Baking

This week 3LG have been learning all about rationing and wartime food. To finish up our learning we made traditional WW2 bread, using only what people would have avaiable at the time.

We have spent the morning following a recipe, measuring igredients, mixing and kneeding dough.

We can definitely think of worse ways to spend a Friday than making the “best bread ever”

Flexible Friday

Flexible Friday is where Yr 3 children choose different activities to complete with their crew. Today Crew Jenkins and Crew West played dodgeball against each other. Although each crew wanted to win, it was lovely to see positive sportsmanship both during and after the games with children cheering for each other, congratulating one another and shaking hands. It was lovely to watch! 😊

Fantastic Footballing Skills! ⚽️

On Wednesday 5th October, NJS sent a team of Y3/4s and Y5/6s to our first Leger Sport Competition of the year. Both teams performed excellently on the day and enjoyed the opportunity to perform against other well-coached teams in the small-sided games. Shoutout to Liam in year six for his leadership skills in helping to organise and encourage his teammates in the Y5/6 team!

Well done to all involved and thank you to the Leger Sport Staff, Campsmount and the other schools in the local area for an excellent event. May it be the first of many!
