Whether working in school or at home, on Friday 29th January we had a Victorian dress up day as per our autumn expedition: A Child Through Time. As you can see, both our children and staff entered into the spirit by dressing up as maids, chimney sweeps, gentlemen and paupers. It also gave the teachers an opportunity to be especially virulent in our incessant desire to achieve maximum order within the classroom. And remember folks, children should be seen and not heard.





This week the children have been creating their own silhouettes. I have been very impressed with the quality of the work which has been produced during the period of remote learning. As part of our Spring expedition, the children created their own silhouettes using different art mediums from paint, pencil and even ink. These were popular during the Victorian period as many families could not afford to have their photographs taken. Instead, they created silhouettes of their loved ones and family members. As I have said many times, and I am sure you will agree, the standard of work being produced is great so please keep up the hard work.





Our learning this week has centered on the different styles of Victorian clothing and the occasions that it is worn. Here we looked at the intricate dresses worn by Queen Victorian at various social events she attended. Finally, we designed our own outfits for the royal couple. What do you think?










This week, Year 3 have been working hard on many aspects of their learning. Demonstrating kindness, support and trying their best. I have been extremely pleased with the standard of learning which has been produced over the last three weeks and I know that this will continue as we move towards half term. As part of our Spring expedition, the children have designed dresses inspired by one of Queen Victoria’s. Below is just one of the beautiful dresses drawn. Keep up the hard work children you are all doing what you can in these unusual times.

What a wonderful time 3HJ had enjoying the recent snow day! Take a look and the magnificent snowmen and ladies constructed by some of the children in our crew! Top effort which certainly deserves a lovely mug of hot chocolate!
Well. Happy new year everybody. Of course, it doesn’t quite feel that we have reached ‘100% happiness’ just yet but I am hopeful that the spring of 2021 will be something more like normality for our country and community. Of course, the one constant positive throughout these difficult times are our children who continue to amaze and delight whether they are learning at home on in school. Indeed, the magnificent outcomes during last term’s expedition was a perfect illustration of both their artistic and literary talents and an overview of that exhibition can be found on our phase website:

Our new expedition is entitled ‘A child through time’ and will catalogue children’s experiences in three key periods of British history: the Victorian era, World War 2 and the present. Here, we will aim to capture children’s experiences through the lens of 5 different categories: education, leisure, clothing, diet and home life. Already, coming to the end of our second week, we have had some quite amazing outcomes from our children both in and out of school. This was punctuated this week by a traditional Victorian Drill PE lesson that the children took part in where they engaged in some traditional exercises that were said to help improve children’s coordination, ability to follow instruction, core strength and disciple. I must say, there were one or two acts of insubordination amongst my subjects that were quickly extinguished with the threat of the cane!
