This week during our Flexible Friday crew session year 3 enjoyed taking part in scary Halloween Kahoot quizzes. I wonder who has the fastest finger in Crew Jenkins?? 😜

To celebrate the end of our first case study of our Lest We Forget expedition, year 3 have used their knowledge and understanding of rationing as well as measures to bake bread from a traditional WW2 recipe. Obviously, the best part was getting stuck in with kneading and I have to say the bread was absolutely delicious and went down a treat!
This week 3LG have been learning all about rationing and wartime food. To finish up our learning we made traditional WW2 bread, using only what people would have avaiable at the time.
We have spent the morning following a recipe, measuring igredients, mixing and kneeding dough.
We can definitely think of worse ways to spend a Friday than making the “best bread ever”
Flexible Friday is where Yr 3 children choose different activities to complete with their crew. Today Crew Jenkins and Crew West played dodgeball against each other. Although each crew wanted to win, it was lovely to see positive sportsmanship both during and after the games with children cheering for each other, congratulating one another and shaking hands. It was lovely to watch! 😊
Our expedition this week has centred on learning all about The Blitz. Children supported each other to create their own anchor charts, demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the subject ranging from how it was named, areas that were bombed and why the blackout was so important. Super work year 3.
Last week Y3 fully immersed themselves in our first case study by replicating in the life of a child during World War Two. We got dressed up in our best 1940s attire and walked down to Norton Community Hall where we ate jam sandwiches, drank ovaltine and played games.
To top off an amazing day as evacuees, we had some exciting visitors in school. We were joined by WW2 experts who brought wartime veihcles for us to have a look at and sit in.
On Friday afternoon, 5RS participated in a dance workshop led by two members of the Royal Ballet. The children worked extremely hard, under expert guidance, to refine their Alice in Wonderland dance sequence, which they are going to perform outside the Cast Theatre a week on Saturday!
Today, year 3 spent time estimating where numbers would go on a number line to 100. An added bonus was that we drew all over the tables. Children used their reasoning skills to locate numbers and the use of mathematical vocabulary was amazing. Well done 3HJ!
During immersion week, Year 3 began their expedition learning all about World War Two. Check out our beautiful artwork creating a silhouette of the London skyline during the Blitz. Here we used water colours to paint the background and drew the skyline on black paper! How effective do they look?
This week Y3 have been learning all about place value in maths. We have been learning all about hundreds, tens and ones and it would only have been fair to kick this topic off by writing all over the tables.
