During immersion week, Year 3 began their expedition learning all about World War Two. Check out our beautiful artwork creating a silhouette of the London skyline during the Blitz. Here we used water colours to paint the background and drew the skyline on black paper! How effective do they look?
Writing on tables?
This week Y3 have been learning all about place value in maths. We have been learning all about hundreds, tens and ones and it would only have been fair to kick this topic off by writing all over the tables.
“Lest We Forget” Hook Week
This week year three have started their expedition learning all about World War Two. Y3 have produced beautiful artwork of a skyline during the Blitz, watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks, learned all about how World War Two started and created aiplanes out of lollipop sticks. It is fair to say we are now fully immersed in our autumn expedition and can’t wait to find out more next week!
Year 3 Community Games Afternoon
Yesterday, Y3 had a wonderful afternoon in our first community event. We were very excited to invite parents and carers into school to hold a games afternoon, taking part in games of bingo and even trying our hand at “Beetle Drive”, a popular game among children during World War Two. Thank you so much to all those who attended.
Y3 Charity Games Afternoon
Yesterday Y3 spent the afternoon having a blast playing games and raising money for charity. It wouldn’t be a games afternoon without a highly competitive game of Bingo and we even stayed true to our expedition playing “Beetle Drive”, a game that became popular among children during World War Two.
Crew building!
Our class crew enjoyed a wonderful first week back engaging in a range of exciting team building activities! One of these activities was a STEM task where the children were challenged to design a table out of newspaper that was at least 20cm high and capable of holding at least one dictionary. In true NJS style, our crew smashed their goal and created a table that held an impressive FIVE dictionaries! Excellent team work 5RS – what a great start to the year!
The start of our NJS journey
In our first week at NJS, 3HJ have made ’Time Capsules’ reflecting on their summer break and setting goals for the new school year. Each time capsule contains photos, examples of some of the children’s favourite things, pledges for the forthcoming year and pieces of awesome art work. These time capsules will be sealed and ‘buried’ till July where we will be able to reflect on our journey through year 3!
Eden Camp excitement!
Excitement at Eden Camp
Year Three have kicked off our autumn expedition, and their time at NJS, with a bang! We were so excited to learn all about what life was like during World War Two in all the different huts, experiencing everything from The Blitz and civilian life. The children were really enthusiastic and inquisitive and are very eagre to start our expedition “Lest We Forget”.
🍦☀️🕶A trip to the seaside 🕶☀️🍦
What an absolutely glorious day we had visiting Bridlington. We played in the sand, ate ice creams and had a sand castle building competition before enjoying a huge picnic. In the afternoon, we visited the John Bull rock factory and made a stick of peppermint rock. Such a wonderful way to end the school year! These kids are amazing!
