This year, Y3 are working with the Royal Opera House on the Chance To Dance programme. Through this programme the children will be working on the Royal Ballet Alice in Wonderland. This week the children came up with 8 beat movements that they thought expressed the different characters from the ballet. The children used their imagination to transform into the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and Alice. They thought about how all the different would act and used this to put together small routines in the style of the Alice ballet.

The Clean Water Challenge!

This week, our children became scientists for the afternoon and were tasked with the challenge of “cleaning” their dirty water sample. Through sharing ideas, and using a trial and error approach, the pupils constructed their own filtering systems with some real success!
Chance To Dance
Last week saw the launch of our new and exciting dance program āChance To Danceā. Year 3 visited Cast in Doncaster to watch an exceptional performance from the Royal Ballet! Our focus is Alice In Wonderland and we have been working hard to create motifs for the main characters – Alice, The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts. Children have thought carefully how to portray their characters through movements and facial expressions which we then put to music!
Doncaster Museum
A day at Doncaster Museum

Last week year 3 got the chance to visit the brand new Doncaster Museum. After the excitement of travelling on a coach, the children had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic Roman workshop. During the workshop, the children dressed up as Romans and Celts, handled 2000 year old artefacts, designed Roman mosaics and even played Roman board games. After the workshop, we got the opportunity to explore the rest of the museum, with the children taking a particular liking to the interactive art!
The children represented the school wonderfully, and I received lots of lovely feedback from members of the public about how polite and respectful the children had been as they were going around the museum. Well done 3LG!
A very Roman visit from Ronulus
Rewind some 2000 years and 3HJ found themselves in Roman Britain! What a wonderful day we had learning all about the Roman way of life from a huge selection of artefacts including childrenās toys, coins and jewellery. The children got so much from a hands on learning approach and weāre amazed to discover how Ronulus spent his time!
Check out the amazing costumes too!
Relentless fun with Roman Ron

Today Year 3 were transported back in time to Roman Britain. The children dressed up as Romans and even had a visit from Roman Ron. They spent the morning learning all about roman artefacts, from childrenās toys and games to parts of a wall! This afternoon the children then took part in a āRoman Army Workshopā, where they learned to march and stand to attention like the Roman Army. We think y3 look amazing in the Roman armour, even if the helmets were a little big!
Representing Numbers
3HJ have had their heads in the game this week and have made an awesome start to their maths work. The beautiful weather has enabled us to to take lots of our learning outside. Today Children challenged each other to represent a range of numbers in many different ways. Here we are using Base 10. Super learning on a super morning!
The Crew Gate Roman Army
Truly Legion!
What a fantastic start to the school year by 4GC! They have settled brilliantly, worked hard and demonstrated our core values in abundance throughout the week. This term’s expedition is entitled ‘Relentless Romans’ and we have been busy this week making Roman shields, traditional mosaics and even and centurion’s battle helmet! In these accompanying pictures, you can marvel at the detail and precision at which these shields have been put together. Perhaps the best way to summarise our efforts this week is through the Roman Latin phrase ‘Carpe Diem‘…Indeed, 4GC have Seized the Day.
