Chance To Dance

This year, Y3 are working with the Royal Opera House on the Chance To Dance programme. Through this programme the children will be working on the Royal Ballet Alice in Wonderland. This week the children came up with 8 beat movements that they thought expressed the different characters from the ballet. The children used their imagination to transform into the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and Alice. They thought about how all the different would act and used this to put together small routines in the style of the Alice ballet.

Flexible Friday!

Well, we do love our Flexible Friday Crew sessions here at NJS where our pupils use their voice to come up with the most interesting and exciting ideas. This week’s highlights include party games in the hall for Crew Chadwick/E Ball; fun on the Jungle trail in Crew Edwards; Blind food tasting (those yucky jelly beans) in Crew Ball and the kids have done something wonderful in Crew Gould and Smith by having their own NJS bakeoff. A busy week!

5EG have been incredibly busy this week! They’ve written incredible detailed recounts of Harry Potter’s trip to Hogwarts, and learnt about the history of trains, by creating a timeline of images. They’ve also began to draw a pencil sketch of Hogwarts, which look amazing so far! I can’t wait to see the finished product! Well done 5EG!

Putrid Potions!

This week, 6SO brought their science case study to a close with an exciting ‘separating materials’ lesson! Unfortunately, Neville Longbottom mixed the wrong combination of substances for his liquid luck potion and it was 6SO’s task to effectively separate the materials using sieving and filtering methods. The team that managed to produce the clearest liquid by the end of the task were awarded 3 house points each!

Football Fun!

Goodness me, haven’t we missed all of this!  Children having the opportunity to thrive in activities beyond the classroom is one of the most wonderful things one can do.  On Wednesday 29th of September, 23 y3/4 pupils made their way to Campsmount to participate in a pyramid football festival that involved both Kirk Smeaton and Askern Spa.  3 teams played 5 matches each, with the top two in each group playing off in a final.  I am pleased to say that regardless of the result, our fabulous NJS pupils demonstrated all of our Core Values whilst representing school, particularly Voice Aspiration, Resilience and Respect!  What’s more, is that our teams performed extremely well with one of our male teams playing off in a final and subsequently winning the match 1-0 thanks to a crisp finish from Fraser.  A good time was had by all and I would like to thank Mrs Batty for accompanying us on the trip.  Well done NJS!

4TE ended a fantastic week by getting very creative in maths! Everyone was able to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge and workings out on their tables. The only problem we struggled with, was who was going to clean it all up!
